Camp Menzies is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Calaveras County, approximately 2 ½ hours southeast of Sacramento, and 1 ½ hours northeast of Stockton.

Knowledge and skills needed: Enthusiasm and willingness to participate fully in the

camp experience. Create a positive, safe and supportive environment

for all girls. Staff will focus on girls and provide patience, support, guidance, and encouragement.

Have experience working with children and/or skills related to a specific position.

Respect individual differences in other staff and campers.

Be able to adjust to a 24 hour-a-day flexible schedule.

Act as an appropriate role model for children through actions, appearance, language, professional work habits, and general conduct.

Abide by the camp policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Camp Menzies…

Located at 5,000 feet elevation in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, just outside Arnold, in Calaveras County, the camp serves approximately 120 girls, ages 6-17, during each 4-8 day sessions. You’ll find 175 acres of tall sugar pine, mountain lakes, and a mountain meadow. Camp Menzies is an American Camp Association Accredited camp.

Who Are the Staff…

Our staff members represent a variety of age groups. The typical age range is 18-30 years. Staff members are from all over the United States and abroad. Using an international placement agency, Camp Counselors USA, we hire staff from Eastern Europe, the United Kingdom, South Africa, South America, Asia and Australia. All international staff must have a permit to work in the United States.

Life at Camp:

Camp staff live in an somewhat confined outdoor setting, working with groups of 8-16 girls, ages 6-17 years. There is limited internet on-site, and staff must be willing to reside in a group living situation. Each staff member must work and live in harmony with other adults on the staff team. Girl Scouts Heart of Central California is looking for staff that will have a positive effect on children, demonstrate enthusiasm for life, and have the emotional and physical stability to live in a 24-hour rustic outdoor environment. Dust, dirt, bugs and weather changes make life at camp interesting and memorable.

When to Apply: Immediately! Positions are filled with qualified applicants on a first come, first hired basis.

Application Paperwork: Complete the application form carefully. Give as much information as possible. Don’t forget to sign & date the application and tell us how you heard about our summer positions. Recommendation Forms: Provide the recommendation forms to the three people listed on your application paperwork. We suggest that you use a former teacher, camp director, pastor, rabbi, neighbor, or your leader. Do not list relatives, roommates, boy/girlfriend, partner, etc. Instruct your references to forward the completed recommendations directly to our office. It is helpful and speeds up the process if you give each recommendation a stamped envelope addressed to our office.

Certificates/Credentials: If the position you are applying for requires certification, please include a photocopy with your application. If you do not have certification for the position in which you are applying, please make note on the application that you are willing to obtain prior to the start of the season.

Interviews: Once your application is received and processed, you will be contacted if you are selected for an interview.

More Information Staff Benefits and Pay: Staff receive a variety of benefits in additional to their seasonal salary. They include: lodging, meals, secondary health and accident insurance, on-site training, staff shirt, time off, job experience, and college credit (if arranged prior to camp).

Limited Availability: In addition to fall seasonal work, short-term positions are available; list dates of availability on the application. Hiring preference is given to persons who are available the entire season.

Transportation to Camp: Staff are responsible for their own transportation to and from camp. We will give limited assistance in making car pool arrangements.
