Description: Academic Decathlon competes in the Orange County Academic Decathlon
competition every year. This unique competition includes a total of 10 subjects: Art, Music,
Economics, Language and Literature, History, Mathematics, Science, Interview, Speech, and
Essay. The competition is separated into three GPA levels (unweighted): Honors: 3.754.00,
Scholastic: 3.003.74, Varsity: 2.99 and under. Participants will only compete with students of
the same GPA level. Also, students can compete both as a part of the nine member team (with
three students from each GPA levels) or individually. It is a great way to become more well-
rounded, obtain skills necessary for future careers, and have fun.

home/home with Alzheimers patients and help them out in any way we can and also have a few
fundraisers throughout the year.

Description: ASPCA, which stands for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals, is dedicated towards advocating for animal rights and educating students on how to
correctly care for animals through discussions and firsthand experiences. During our meetings,
we discuss current events that pertain to the mistreatment of animals, have informational guest
speakers with expertise on animal affairs, attend volunteer events at local animal shelters and
rescues, and help them with different fundraising events. We hope to make a difference, in and
out of Northwood, with a variety of opportunities in which the students can be involved with. In
the end, we hope we will have provided you with more knowledge about what’s happening in
the world of politics for animals, how you can help, and gain more of an appreciation for our
pets.

Description: Comfort Zone Club fundraises and then donates to the organization Comfort Zone
Camp, which we stem from. Comfort Zone Camp is a nonprofit bereavement camp that
transforms the lives of children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or primary
caregiver. The free camps include confidence building programs and age-based support groups
that break the emotional isolation grief often brings. Comfort Zone Club also helps publicize the
organization and send kids to volunteer for the camps.

Description: At the Competitive Smash Bros Club, the main goal is to provide an environment in

and fundraising events in which the proceeds will go towards an organization named Child's

munch on. This to not only immerse students further into the langauge, but to provide receptive

Description: Our club's mission is to provide a safe space for LGBTQ+ students to socialize,
advocate for human rights, and learn about LGBTQ+ related issues. Our current goals are to
collaborate with other human rights clubs on campus to stress the importance of understanding
intersectionality, and to continue our annual Pride Week here on campus. This was a new,
school-wide idea we implemented last year to have all Northwood students participate in
celebrating the diversity of students here on campus, particularly queer-identifying students.
We had difficulty publicizing this last year and we hope to improve the hype, organization and
popularity of this event.

Description: We are a high school chapter based on the Kids Who Care Foundation, a nonprofit
organization founded in Orange County. The main purpose of the club is to cheer up terminally
or chronically ill children located in participating hospitals and Ronald McDonald Homes around
the world. However, we will focus primarily on those stationed around Orange County. We will
engage in volunteer programs established by the foundation. These include the construction of
‘Smile Packs’ which will contain books, games, DVDs, card quilts, gift cards, and puppets. We
will also volunteer within the Traveling Variety Shows, a series of shows exhibiting interesting
and engaging talents of volunteers held at hospitals and/or Ronald McDonald homes.Our

Description: Mock Trial provides an opportunity for students to engage in simulated trials
coordinated by the National Constitutional Rights Foundation at both a county and state level.

attorney who represents our team as an attorney coach to prepare and practice for

Description: The club’s focus is to bring awareness to disaster preparedness at school and our
community through a Teen Community Emergency Response Team (Teen CERT) Program.
The CERT club will educate its members about disaster preparedness for hazards that may
impact their area and train them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light
search and rescue, emergency team organization, disaster medical operations, disaster
psychology and terrorism. In addition, the club will also take an active role in providing support
to the school’s emergency preparedness plan, such as emergency drills and overseeing its
emergency supplies as well as raising funds to secure the emergency supplies for NHS. We will
