Have you run out of room in your apartment? Did you know that if you are at the end of your lease, you can upgrade to a larger style apartment? We have done MANY upgrades to apartments! If you have lived here three or more years, you may not even be aware of all the changes we do when people move out. Stop by the office and take a look at the model. If your one bedroom just isn't big enough, take a look at a two bedroom. If your two bedroom doesn't have the pantry you want, take a look at our 3 bedroom apartments. The animal kingdom is one of our planet’s most important resources. The more numerous and diverse animal species are, the better chance every living creature has of thriving. And when animals thrive, humans benefit in two main ways: 1) Animals help to enrich the soil with nutrients, which then improves the quality of air, water, and edible plants, and 2) Scientists can study certain species and learn even more about how they affect humanity as a whole.

Unfortunately, different species can become “endangered.” This means that factors like illegal hunting or environmental pollution may reduce species’ populations so much that without intervention from wildlife experts, the species may go extinct.

One such endangered species is the Tapunuli orangutan, which lives in North Sumatra. Orangutans have always been popular at zoos and on animal TV shows because of their long arms and red-orange fur. In their natural habitats, orangutans play a vital role in dispersing seeds, thus contributing to plant growth. But for the Tapunuli, survival is uncertain, with less than 800 individuals of this species currently in existence.

Other critically endangered species include the black rhino, declining as a result of illegal poaching. Black rhinos are one of the oldest groups of mammals, having been around for at least 4 million years. They are an important source of ecotourism for the country Namibia and help to protect other species on conserved land, including elephants.

Besides donating to the World Wildlife Fund and even adopting endangered species through worldwildlife.org, we can all do our part to save animals:

• Be diligent about recycling and buy only sustainable products. The less waste, particularly toxic waste, that goes into the environment, the better chances animals have of thriving in their natural habitats and growing their populations.

• Before traveling abroad, read up on how laws may differ from one country to the next, when it comes to products made from animals that are endangered or near extinction.

• If there are wildlife preserves or parks near your community or a short drive away, consider volunteering to help the staff with any maintenance or upgrade efforts.
