Description: ASPCA, which stands for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to

Animals, is dedicated towards advocating for animal rights and educating students on how to

correctly care for animals through discussions and firsthand experiences. During our meetings,

we discuss current events that pertain to the mistreatment of animals and help out with different

fundraising events related to animal cruelty prevention. We hope to make a difference, in and out

of Northwood, with a variety of opportunities in which students can be involved with. In the end,

we hope we will have provided you with more knowledge about what's happening in the world

of politics for animals, how you can help, and gain more of an appreciation for our pets. Join us

Description: Astronomy Club is dedicated to educating Northwood students and the community

about the vast field of astronomy, as well as providing a meeting place for students desiring to

deepen and share their knowledge about outer space. During meetings we have presentations

regarding various astronomy related topics, professional guest speakers, discussions on the latest

NASA occurrences, fun astronomy games, volunteer opportunities, and much more! Astronomy

Club also holds annual Stargazing Nights and participates in many events such as the annual

IPSF STEAM Carnival, so be sure to come by room 1022 the first and third Thursday of every

month to get involved!

Description: Northwood’s Biology Olympiad Club presents students with a new way to explore

the field of biology, compete in competitions, and participate in numerous off campus events.

We compete in the annual USA Biology Olympiad Open Exam in February, an exam that is free

for all high schoolers to take. BioLy also hosts the annual STEM Fest, an after school event that

showcases high-budget demonstrations that can’t be performed in typical science classes. We

regularly collaborate with science clubs of the other IUSD high schools in order to bring high-

quality exhibitions and events to all students of the district. Throughout the year, we hold

fundraisers for local and national non-profits (e.g. Irvine LIGHTS, The Mauli Ola Foundation,

etc.). In order to make the spread of biology more inclusive and available to everyone, there is no

tryout process for the club. Any one with the will to learn and explore new fronts can join!

Description: Birds of a Feather is a badminton club that aims to reach out to as many students as

possible so that they can get a better understanding of badminton. Ultimately, our goal is to allow

badminton to become a better known sport at Northwood and to provide opportunities for those

who are interested in the sport but have no prior experience, as well as for those who want to

train to a competitive level. The club will teach members basic techniques, practice/rally, and

play fun games. We also plan to hold inter-district tournaments as well as provide members with

Description: Northwood High School’s, Business, Investments, and Finance Club is devoted to

researching and teaching the future generation of our school’s student body about new and

upcoming businesses. As well as conducting case studies, mock stock investments, and

providing students with a basic understanding of the fields of investments and finance. Our club

will have multiple projects, demonstrations, and lessons about the fundamental and basic

understanding of investments. Some of the events that we will be engaging in will consist of but

are not limited to, mock investment contest, project pitches, case studies, and guest speakers.

There are also lessons on economics. Any person is encouraged to join our club, participate with

the team, learn new concepts, and most importantly having fun while doing so.

Description: Cyber security is the protection of anything internet connected, including hardware,

software, and data from malicious attacks. Cyber security club covers subjects such as ethical

hardware hacking, social engineering, cryptography and more, and will teach you how to secure

Windows and Linux/Ubuntu machines and the basics of computer networking. Additionally,

members can choose to participate in multiple nation-wide competitions, including CyberPatriot

(a National Youth Cyber Education Program created by the Air Force Association), NCL

(National Cyber League), and the California Mayors Cup Cyber Competition. No prerequisites

or prior knowledge is needed to join this club, everyone is welcome!

Description: Fostering Hope's aim to help make the foster system less overwhelming for foster

children. In order to achieve such a goal we create care packages filled with childhood items

such as coloring books, blankets, crayons, backpacks, stuffed animals, and reading books. All of

these backpacks will be constructed by us and out dedicated board and club members and will be

dropped off at Seneca Foster and Adoption Agency once a month. We will also be making visits

to spend time with the children and get to know them on a personal level.

Description: GIFT is an acronym for Give, Interact, Feed, Teach; these are the four main

purposes and objectives of this club. In this club, we will strive to raise money for a non-profit

organization, Akshaya Patra, which serves free, mid-day meals at schools in India to motivate

children to come to school and learn. That is where the objectives of Give and Feed originate

from. The Interact and Teach will come from how we raise the money for this organization. We

are sharing and teaching our gift/talent with the community to provide a gift for the rest of our

Description: The Team America Rocketry Challenge Outreach Club provides a unique

experience to all club members. Throughout the year, the club members will be designing,

building, and launching a model rocket. The design phase will entail the use of an advanced

simulation software known as RockSim. In the construction phase, a thorough understanding of

the basic and advanced anatomy of a rocket will be gained. The launch will serve as the

experimentation, crucial to any scientific project. Through it all, scientific knowledge acquired

either through the club or the school curriculum will be applied to a hands-on project. The club is

also a gateway to the Team America Rocketry Challenge competition, and its ultimate goal is to

spark student interest in rocketry and inspire them to compete in this competition.

Description: Xposure is a photography club that serves as a place where students can express

their interest in photography or desire to learn more about the art of taking pictures. We discuss

various types of photography and give constructive criticism on each other's photos. Also, we

collaborate with several clubs and organizations to offer numerous photoshoot opportunities

throughout the year, both in school and out, like Oakfest and the OC Small Paws adoption days

respectively.

Description: The High School Youth Action Team (HSYAT) provides high school students the

opportunity to participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of services for

their peers. The program consists of student representatives from local high schools who

organize teen activities and represent their peers at various community groups. The program’s

objectives include: Youth Leadership: Engage youth in leadership roles in the community.

Community Services: Increase youth participation in activities that benefit the entire community.

Social-Recreational: Engage youth in safe and appealing social-recreational activities.
