Microsoft does not offer alternate DNS mappings and the root domain is reserved for Lync and Exchange. Public facing URLs require the “www.” prefix.

Microsoft does not offer custom SharePoint config file changes, and the default installation does not recognize mobile browsers. Mobile users get redirected to a login page.

The public facing site cannot access any information on the private site collection. Data is intended to be transferred via Microsoft Access Services and/or the SharePoint Workspace.
