The Benefits:

Cost Savings Resulting From Greater Efficiency:The double handling of data is inefficient. When capturing/validating asset data, having a single source of truth instantly accessible has yielded significant costs savings. The ability to edit data in the field provides confidence in the information we gather and reduces the risk of re-work due to data handling errors.

Better Decision Making:The nature of Opus’ infrastructure projects often involve collating data from various sources. Through AGOL, teams are able to access and query data including traffic flow reports, site photos and movie files. The ability to host these in one desktop spatial viewer has seen us expedite our decision making processes.

Improved communication:Custom dashboards have provided real time reporting on key project metrics – and reporting tools embedded with asset/site photographs. We’re able to reach a wider audience and for that audience to consume spatial content in their own preferred manner. We’ve deployed web map-ping tools to facilitate workshops – and improve collaboration.

Managing geographically:The ability to deploy projects quickly, provide structure to the management of project data, access maps across multiple devices and update a single source of truth in the field have helped us manage geographically. Something as simple as colour-coding assets in viewers, according to survey status, is a great example.

Better geographic information recordkeeping:With a fast, efficient means of tagging a photo to a geographic object using AGOL and accessing it live through our dashboard tools, we are significantly improving the contextual information on assets. Tools such as this help us to improve our historical asset inventory.
