    1. The techniques in this manual are basic techniques for most close combat fighting.Instructors shall teach the techniques in this manual rather than their own individual styles.

    2. Techniques in this manual can cause serious injury or death. Training of these techniqueswill be conducted in strict accordance with approved basic level, unit level and instructor leveltraining plans.

    3. Throughout this manual the term opponent refers to any enemy, belligerent, subject orperson opposing the soldier.
