Welcome to the second week of Term 2 for 2014. On Parade this morning we gave special acknowledgement to our 2014 Year 12 Class and our Prep Class (which continues to grow and grow). As both class groups signify the beginning and end junctures of the formal years of education. “Cradle to Career” is the new catch phrase to reference 13
years schooling and we have it all under the one roof at Cloncurry State School P-12. Lucky us!!! This makes an education at Cloncurry State School unique and the Preppies enjoy engaging with the senor students. All Preppies were later presented with a Certificate by the school captains to recognise the beginning of their Learning Journey. Sally McGee and Kayla Chaplain , 2014 School Captains, introduced themselves and welcomed all new staff and students to our school community. I congratulate them on their first official engagement for the year.
Did you hear the news: Year 3 students Josh Gabbert, Codie-Leigh Ketchup and Declan Molloy received 1st , 2nd and 3rd respectfully in the John Flynn Place Recycled Art Show Competition held through John Flynn Place at the end of last year. “You Will Never Know If You Never Have A Go”…CONGRATULATIONS!!! The year is certainly off to a great start. Keep an eye on the School Calendar for activities and events and remember that you are always welcome and encouraged to become actively involved in your child’s education. Until next week …. Hi Parents and Students, Welcome back to 2014! It's shaping up to be an exciting year ahead. Last week we did instrumental auditions the results of which will be announced this week. Please make sure to keep in mind that we have a lot of students wanting to be a part of the instrumental music program and as such there will be a waiting list. Older students will always get priority over younger ones. Sign up sheets for choir, guitar and keyboard lessons will be up in the music room as of Monday. All music activities will be on as usual with the addition of keyboard lessons once a week. There are limited spaces in the keyboard lessons so please be sure to let Miss Donovan know if you are interested. Hi to everyone, here we are in week 2 already. It has
been a pleasure ge)ng to meet all the new preppies and their families.
It is great to see that all of the students in Prep are coming to school with smiles on
their faces and appear very keen to learn. I must say thank you to all of the parents
and caregivers that you have been so suppor,ve and posi,ve and that always
encourages the children to come to school.
A huge thank you to the parents who have returned the “geDng to know your child” note.
Last week was spent teaching the students about school rou,ne and they are all very quick learners. We have
been learning our school rules.
Be a Learner
Be Safe
Be RespecFul
Be Responsible
As parents and teachers we need to ensure that these amazing lile people come to school every day with a
posi,ve outlook and a)tude, this will enhance their learning experience throughout their en,re school
experience.
Swimming starts this week and forms have gone home. Please ensure you return the forms with payment to the
school as soon as possible.
Swimming will be in the first session on Tuesday morning and will con,nue for the rest of the term. Students are

2014 is here and what a week we have had to start off the year!
Both the students and myself are excited but exhausted. The Year 1 students
have been working hard, ge)ng to know the new rou,nes and learning about
the expecta, ons of our classroom. I’ve been very busy ge)ng to know all my students and
where they are at in their learning so I can best help them develop and achieve.
In the first few days of week 1 students have been reading and prac, cing their handwri,ng,
and revising their number knowledge and coun,ng in Maths.
Year 1 start their school swimming in week 2 on Wednesday. Please help your children
remember their togs, and towel.
I am looking forward to a fantas,c 2014 with the Year 1 students, helping them develop and
achieve their best. Please drop in so I can introduce myself to you. Miss Bischof
Welcome to 2014. It has been a busy first week back to school. It
has been great ge)ng to know my new class and learning all about
them. We have been doing lots of revision of our sight
words . Yellow class went to the library to borrow some
library books to take home with them. Next week
homework and daily home reading will begin. Homework
will be due every Friday and reading folders will need to be
returned daily. Next Thursday Yellow class will begin
swimming lessons. Please ensure that the notes have been
returned to the office along with the swimming fees. Hope
everyone has a great week.
Miss Rachel Rozynski
Even though week 1 is over I would just love to say a huge welcome to Purple Class.
This week was a big week for us. We sorted all our sta, onary for the term, and we began our units.
Can I just say a HUGE thank you to all parents and guardians of Purple Class. EVERY SINGLE child came to school
with all of their equipment for the year. That is amazing to see so thank you parents!
In English this term we are exploring poetry. This week we began by listening to a range of poems and we created
our own defini, ons for audience and for purpose. We also reflected on each poem we heard and spoke about if
we thought it was a poem to inform or entertain us. We decided most were for the purpose of entertaining.
In Maths we began by recapping our 2 ,mes tables and shapes. We are learning a song for each of these concepts
and we can’t wait un,l we know them so well that we sing them all day. We know you
can’t wait for that either!
In Science this week we opened our unit by sor,ng a range of objects into different
categories. We decided to sort them based on their size and their shape. We then
sorted them based on what they were made of. This kicked off the introduc,on to
exploring materials, which is our focus for Science this term.
Congratula, ons to Jillian and Chloe, who won Miss Regan’s prizes for having the most
PBs in week 1.
Next week we will be beginning our homework book. There is an informa,on sheet in
the front of the book for parents and guardians. Students have week 2 of their
homework book and 2 home readers. Please make sure you fill out the reading log each
,me you read with your child so I can track the number of nights we are reading.
We have also being swimming with Mr Bailey . Please come to school in your uniform (we will get changed at the
pool) and please make sure you have a towel and a hat, both labelled with your child’s name.
Have a great week! Miss Jemma Regan

Hello and welcome to 2014 in Green Class. As Miss Norton says “We are keen for 2014”!!!
This year we are running a mul,-age 3/4 and I feel so lucky to have the ‘old’ Year Three’s to help me
establish our new rou,nes!!
I won’t bombard you with too much this week! Thank you to everyone for having
students’ equipment ready to go. It makes everything so much more efficient and
allows everyone to get down to business quickly. The kids look great in their
uniforms. Hats are so important, so please, if you have ,me, just check that hats
are coming to school. I will let you know if hats are missing! I am really impressed
with the quality, nutri, ous lunches that are being sent to school. There seems to
be so much research that links breakfast and healthy food with greater learning
capabili,es. Keep it up!
Swimming begins this week (Week 2) on Wednesday at 1.20 (aPer second
lunch). Students require swimmers, towels, sunscreen and broad-brimmed
hats (no caps). Forms have been sent home and payment can be made at the office. Permission notes
must be signed before students can enter the pool.
Un,l next week …Take care Miss Lizzie (Elizabeth Keim)
Welcome to the start of 2014 school year!
What a busy start to year it has been and I am very
pleased to report that the children of Blue Class are working and seling
in very well.
Blue Class welcomes Kaydee Kelly and Connie Tabbi who have joined Cloncurry
State School this term. We welcome them and their
families to Cloncurry State School and the wider community.
We have some new and exci,ng topics that we are ge)ng into this term. For
our first English unit we are learning about narra,ve wri,ng. This unit of work
is centred around the funny and fabulous book “The Twits,” by Roald Dahl.
Homework has begun and will be due on the Friday of each week. Students
who are on levelled readers are strongly encouraged to change their home
readers every day.
If you have any ques, ons or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me in person, via the school
phone number or by email. Stay tuned for our Blue Class term overview which will be posted on the
school website.
Have a lovely week! J Miss Katrina Madigan [email protected]
What a great first week we had!!
The students in Red Class have seled in very well! They had lots of exci,ng
stories to tell me from the Christmas break. We have dived straight into our
science unit, where we are learning about different adapta, ons which help
animals survive in their environment. The students are looking forward to
crea,ng their own creature at the end of the unit. Homework starts next
week.
See you next week!

Welcome back everyone. I hope you all had a
wonderful Christmas and New Year. Tuesday was our first day back and it was a
joy to see the students in Orange so excited and ready to learn. We started with
a sheet called All About Me for the students to fill out, so
that I could get to know them beer. The students had an
English lesson looking at short stories, the students then
wrote short stories for homework. We also went over how
to set out our books; they all did a wonderful job.
Orange class will have Sport on a Wednesday with Mr Bailey. They will start swimming next
week and a note will be sent home with more details. Please make sure that your child
brings a water bole to school as the weather is so hot at the moment.
Parents please feel free to come and see me any,me about any concerns or just to have a
chat. Happy Learning, Thanks Dearne Hodge s
Our 9/10 cohort of students are off to an impressive start! Students
have been working hard in all subject areas and par, cipa,on in learning
ac,vi,es has been excellent. Students were given diaries this week to assist them in being
as organised as they can be with homework and assessment tasks. Students are required
to bring these to school each day. An assessment calendar will be released
shortly, outlining the due dates for all term one assessment items. If you
have any ques, ons regarding assessment or your child’s progress, please
don’t hesitate to make contact. We extend a warm welcome to the new
students in our 9/10 classes and we look forward to a wonderful year with
you all.
Welcome back to term 1! 2014 will certainly be a year of hard work
and well-earned rewards for our senior students. They have quickly
seled in and are working hard on ensuring they aain results reflec,ve of their poten,al. Our year 12 students
par, cipated in team building ac,vi,es during Life Skills and their willingness to par, cipate and support their peers was
fantas,c to see; they will each be fantas,c role models for our younger students. The year 12 cohort took ,me out of their
aPernoon on Thursday to deliver a small token of their apprecia,on for our teachers and office staff. They created lile packs
filled with a tea bag and chocolates as part of our ‘paying it forward’ ini,a,ve we’re working on this year.
This week I asked students what they were most looking forward to about commencing and comple,ng their senior years of
schooling, here are some of their responses.
Zane Smith –“ I am looking forward to achieving my
goals and working towards a great OP score.”
Hannah Bradley – “I’m looking forward to crea,ng
friendships that will last a life,me. I am excited to be
accessing different subjects in year 11 through distance
educa,on as well school-based subjects.”
Connor Trim –“I want to leave my op,ons open and
work towards grades which will allow me to select a
career in any industry I choose.”
Sally McGee – “Working hard at school and
experiencing the senior trip at the end of the year.”
Terri Paine – “QCE and a great OP score, and the senior
trip.”
