The Market Leading Microbiology Mass Spectrometry System

Within a short period of time, the MALDI Biotyper has revolutionised the way that microbial identification is performed.

The speed, accuracy, ease of use and cost efficiency of the MALDI Biotyper is proven in hundreds of peer-reviewed publications. The MALDI Biotyper is acknowledged all over the world as the state-of-the-art system solution for the identification of microorganisms.

Identifying microorganisms by their molecular fingerprint

The MALDI Biotyper identifies micro-organisms using MALDI-TOF (Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization-Time of Flight) Mass Spectrometry to determine the unique molecular fingerprint of an organism.

The characteristic spectrum pattern of this molecular fingerprint is used to reliably and accurately identify a particular microorganism by matching thousands of reference spectra of microorganism strains.

But there‘s more. The outstanding capabilities of the system go well beyond microbial identification and Bruker is working on continuous innovation bringing MALDI Biotyper into new fields of application such as functional resistance testing.

Additional workflows are available for blood culture processing as well as the processing of other traditionally difficult to analyze groups of organisms including fungi and mycobacteria.

The open microbiology concept

Software modules like the Compass Translator allow for smooth integration with existing laboratory informatics.MALDI Biotyper results are converted into a format that a LIS or an AST System can easily understand.

There is nothing easier

The MALDI Biotyper workflow has been designed to be as robust and easy to perform as possible. Only a few simple steps are required to generate high quality microorganism identifications. No experience with mass spectrometry is required. Our dedicated MBT Compass microbiology software automates the process of acquiring the mass spectrum and spectra-matching, providing high fidelity identification results.

More Than a Comprehensive Library

Every Microorganism could be of Clinical Relevance

What Will You Identify?

Spectra are determined from clinical iso-lates from collaborating partners, round robin strains and strains from isolates from accredited ISO 9001:2008 certified strain collections.

Up-to-date and traceable

The integrated library of the MBT Compass Software comprises spectra of thousands of strains. The library is continuously maintained and updated according to strict quality controlled procedures.

The Best Technology from the Experts in Mass Spectrometry

As leader in MALDI-TOF technology is it of great importance to us to design robust, compact, high performance plat-forms intended for extensive and routine usage in the microbiology laboratory. The core of the MALDI Biotyper system is the cutting-edge microflex LT MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer.

A space saving system

A true bench-top solution with less than 1 meter of counter space offers flexibility in meeting laboratory needs. Requires only a 110/220 V electrical outlet with very minimal heat output.

Resolution meets sensitivity

Resolution and sensitivity of the spec-trometer are tailored to the needs of microbiologists. For optimal results with-out the need for unnecessarily long and bulky instrument flight tubes.

Accelerated data acquisition

With Smart Spectra Acquisition data generation is accelerated by minimizing the number of laser shots per sample needed to generate a signal. At approxi-mately 200 identifications per hour, the system offers the highest throughput for MALDI-TOF microbiology testing.

Highly reproducible results – day to day

The quick and simple performance check performed before each run provides the highest standard of reproducibility.

Continuous operation

Routine maintenance such as cleaning is reduced to a minimum and can be easily performed by the user.
