Overall Summary and Conclusions
• BPH, a multifactorial disorder characterized by an enlarged prostate, LUTS, and BOO, can lead to serious clinical outcomes (AUR and BPH-related surgery).
• PROSCAR™ is a competitive and specific inhibitor of type II 5-reductase, which mediates the conversion of testosterone to DHT.
• PROSCAR reduces BPH symptoms and prostate size, improves urinary flow, and decreases the risk of AUR and BPH-related surgery.
• PROSCAR slows the progression of BPH.
• The clinical effects of PROSCAR have been established in clinical trials of up to 7 years’ duration.
