TCM holds that the ear is not an

isolated organ. It is a small whole

with close relations with zangfu

organs through channels and

collaterals. The physiological

functions of zangfu organs can be

regulated by pressing the ear

points.

Introduction

Mechanism of Ear Points for Losing Weight

Clinically, most patients’ hungry feeling can be reduced

by pressing the ear points before meals or when feel

hungry. With the treatment the patients feel relaxed in

the body and the weight can be reduced. The practice

proves that to lose weight with ear-therapy is a simple

and effective way.

Explanations of Ear Points

1. Brain Stem: on the medial side of antitragus. This is high centre

of vegetative, sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves, with the

regulating functions for the viscera. It can regulate the body

temperature, food-intake, endocrine system and emotional reactions,

indicated in simple obesity and dysfunctions of endocrine.

2. Subcortex: on the medial side of antitragus, at the lower 1/3 of

the midline. It can excite the cortex of brain

3. Endocrine: at the base of cavum conchae in the intertragic notch. It is indicated in the diseases caused by the dysfunctions of endocrine system, such as obesity.

4. Middle Cymba Conchae: in the center of Cymba Conchae. It can induce diuresis to treat edema.

5. Shenmen: in the triangular fossa. It functions to calm the mind.

6. Internal Genitalia: in the depression of the center of the anterior 1/3 of the triangular fossa. It is indicated in dysfunctions of endocrine system, dysmenorrhea, seminal emission, and premature ejaculation, etc.

7. Forehead: at the anterior inferior corner of lateral aspect of antitragus. It is an important point for promoting the functions of brain and clearing the mind

Explanations of Ear Points

8. Sanjiao: superior to Endocrine at the base of Cavum Conchae. It is indicated in abdominal distention, constipation, edema, and obesity, etc.

9. Stomach: at the area where the helix crus terminates. It is indicated in various diseases of the stomach.

10. Lung: around the Heart. Functioning to induce diuresis and bowel movements.

11. Spleen: at the posterior and superior part of Cavum Conchae. It is good to strengthen the spleen in transportation and transformation, indicated in abdominal distension, diarrhea, constipation, and edema, etc.

12. Kidney: below the bifurcation between superior and inferior antihelix crus. It has the functions to strengthen yang, replenish essence, unobstruct the water passage, and tonify the body, indicated in lumbar pain, tinnitus, nephritis, edema, and etc.

13. Liver: at the posterior and inferior part of Cymba Conchae. It has the functions to clear up liver, regulate qi, activate blood, indicated in premenstrual tension, irregular menstruation, climacteric syndrome, etc.

14. Large Intestine: at the medial 1/3 of superior aspect of helix crus. It has the functions to clear up the large intestine, indicated in dysfunctions of intestines, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal distension, etc.

15. Small Intestine: at the middle 1/3 of superior aspect of helix crus. It has the functions to help separate the clear from the turbid indicated in indigestion, dysfunctions of stomach and intestines.

Explanations of Ear Points

16. Thirst: at the midpoint between External Nose and Tragic Apex. It has the function to control the volume of water intake.

17. Hunger: at the midpoint between External Nose and adrenal. It has the functions to control the volume of food intake, reduce the hungry feeling.

18. Buttocks: at the posterior 1/3 of the inferior antihelix crus.

19. Abdomen: at the cavum border of Lumbosacral Vertebrae.

The last two points are used for local areas.

Principles for selecting points

1. To regulate the endocrine: Endocrine, Brain Stem, Uterus, and Subcortex are selected for those who are obese due to dysfunctions of endocrine system.

2. To enhance the excitement: Forehead should be selected for those who are obese with somnolence.

3. To reduce intake of food: Brain Stem, Hunger and Thirst should be selected for those who are obese due to overeating.

4. To increase the discharge: Lung, Kidney, Middle Cymba Conchae, Large Intestine, Small Intestine, and Sanjiao, etc. should be selected to increase the discharge of stools and urine.

5. Buttocks, Abdomen and so on can be selected accordingly.

Tips

•Selected 5-10 points each time.

•Tender spots of the patient

should be found out first.

• After disinfection, the herbal

seeds or ear-point needles are

fixed to the points with medical

adhesive tape.

Tips

Press with thumb and index

finger to get Deqi, then the

seeds or needles are kept for

2-3 days. Two ears are used

by turns.

The patient should press the

points at least 3 times a day.
