• MARINE WEST COAST: by OCEANS, rains year-round; temperature stays pretty much cool/warm • EX: Oregon/Western Washington
MID LATITUDES
• HUMID SUBTROPICAL: long, humid summers; cool, mild winters; EASTERN COAST OF CONTINENTS!– Ex: Our part of TEXAS!!!
• HUMID CONTINENTAL: four seasons with extremely different temperatures– EX: New York, Nebraska
HIGH LATITUDES
• SUBARCTIC: cool summers; EXTREMELY cold winters; usually below zero– EX: Alaska
• TUNDRA: extremely cold all the time; has permafrost (ground stays frozen)– EX: Northern Canadian Islands
DRY
• Semiarid: hot summers; cold winters; less than 16 inches of precipitation; INTERIOR OF CONTINENTS– EX: West Texas
• Arid: less than 10 inches of precipitation; HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HEAT– EX: Sahara Desert, Eastern Washington
HIGHLANDS
• Generally cold due to elevation; short, cool summers; longer, cold winters. Some places can have warm summers.– EX: Mountains in Eastern California
