FACT: OVER 54% of the historical emissions come from rich countries of the North EVEN THOUGH they have only 1/7 of the worlds population. Rich and industrialized countries are the main contributors of global warming as a result of a build-up of greenhouse gases. Developing countries, on the other hand, have the least emissions but bearing the most of its worst catastrophic effects.CLIMATE JUSTICE NOW!Climate Justice - combines human rights and development to achieve a human-centred approach that safeguards the rights of the most vulnerable people and sharing the burdens and benefits of climate change and its impacts equitably and fairly.WHY DO WE NEED CLIMATE JUSTICE?Climate justice is vital as it acknowledges the following (principles):(1) the need for equitable stewardship of the worlds resources;(2) historical responsibility for pollution;(3) capacity (access and control of wealth and technology);(4) protection of human rights;(5) the right to sustainable development development; (6) sharing of benefits and burdens equitably; and(7) participatory, transparent and accountable decisions on climate change.ISSUES: Worlds VulnerabilityThe World is Getting Hotter! 9 of the 10 WARMEST YEARS on record have occurred since 2000 2015 Will Probably Be the Hottest Year Everand 2016 Might Top It 2011 to 2015 the hottest five-year period on record with temperatures about 0.57C (1.01 Fahrenheit) 2016 could top them all!!!Effects $1.2 TRILLION the amount climate change costs the world a year Over 375 Million people have been impacted by climate change-related disasters 1.7-3.2 FEET the amount sea level will rise by 2100 67 Billion Dollars spent on climate change adaptation aid in developing countries 40% MORE category 4-5 Atlantic Hurricanes By 2050, climate changes impact on agriculture = 10-20% more hungerWorse impacts on: Food Sovereignty, Lives, and Livelihoods.
