MAKING MOVES: The Monsters experienced a pair of roster moves this week as RW Nikita Korostelev was released from his AHL standard player contract (SPC) on Monday and LW Markus Hannikainen was assigned to Cleveland (AHL) by Columbus (NHL) on Tuesday. HITTING THE SKIDS: For the first time this season, Cleveland has dropped five consecutive contests with the Monsters’ record sitting at 0-4-1-0 over that span. DANO DELIVERS: Monsters LW Marko Dano currently ranks among the AHL’s leaders in penalty minutes (51, 2nd) so far this season and is also in the midst of a three-game assist streak (4A). ZAC ATTACK: Cleveland’s top goal scorer so far this season is C Zac Dalpe. The former Ohio State Buckeye currently ranks second in Monsters franchise history in goals (59) and is just one power-play goal away from tying the Monsters’ franchise record for extra-man scores with 20 in his Cleveland career. Dalpe’s 63 shots on goal this season rank in the AHL’s top five (T3rd) and Dalpe’s two shorthanded goals rank tied for third-most in the league this year. RELEVANT ROOKIE: Monsters D Andrew Peeke currently ranks in the AHL’s top-ten among first-year skaters in points (10, T9th), assists (7, T4th), shorthanded goals (1, T1st), shorthanded assists (2, 1st) and shorthanded points (3, 1st). DOB: June 10, 1956 (63 y/o)

HOMETOWN: Denver, CO

BIO: Originally selected by the St. Louis Blues in the seventh round (113th overall) of the 1976 NHL Entry Draft, Mike Eaves logged 324 NHL appearances spanning eight seasons with the Minnesota North Stars and Calgary Flames from 1979-86 following a spectacular collegiate career at the University of Wisconsin from 1974-78. The Badgers’ first-ever All American, Eaves captained Wisconsin to the 1977 National Championship.

In 34 seasons in the coaching ranks, Eaves has patrolled the bench in the NHL (Assistant Coach with Calgary from 1985-86, Assistant Coach with Philadelphia from 1988-90 and in 1993-94, Assistant Coach with Pittsburgh from 1997-00), the AHL (Head Coach with Hershey from 1990-93), Finland’s Liiga (Head Coach with HIFK Helsinki in 1996-97), the USHL (Head Coach of USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program in 2000-01) and the collegiate ranks (Head Coach with the U. of Wisconsin from 2002-16, Head Coach at St. Olaf College from 2016-19). Eaves was especially successful at Wisconsin, coaching his alma mater to a National Championship in 2006 and leading the Badgers to the NCAA Title Game in 2010. Steve McCarthy, Assistant Coach A former first-round selection by the Chicago Blackhawks (23rd overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Trail, British Columbia native Steve McCarthy enters his fourth season in professional coaching with the Monsters in 2019-20. A member of the Monsters’ 2016 Calder Cup Championship team, McCarthy logged 302 career NHL appearances as a defenseman for the Blackhawks, Vancouver Canucks and Atlanta Thrashers during a professional playing career that spanned 16 seasons from 2000-2016 and also featured stops in the AHL, KHL and ECHL, along with stints in the top Finnish and Swiss leagues.

Trent Vogelhuber, Assistant Coach Vogelhuber, 31, is a Dublin, Ohio, native and was the first player from the Columbus area drafted by the Blue Jackets, selected in the seventh round at the 2007 NHL Draft. He played six seasons as a pro, registering 28 goals and 45 assists for 73 points with 191 penalty minutes in 267 career AHL games with the Springfield Falcons, Lake Erie Monsters and San Antonio Rampage. Vogelhuber spent four seasons (2012-16) in the Blue Jackets organization and was a member of the Monsters’ Calder Cup championship team in 2016.
