Courageously Living the Gospel

Missionary Discipleship Prayer

As we intensify our personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ, we should add mortification and sacrifice to our spiritual way of life. These practices are not confined to Lent. Virtuous living and giving something to God each day are habits that can be achieved through desire and prayer. Sincerely pray one Our Father daily for the grace to follow these practices.

Our Lady of Grace

Missionary Discipleship

During the month of May…

The Rosary will be recited at the Grotto: Monday – Friday at 6:00 pm.

Please bring a chair. We are observing social distancing (6 ft. away), limit of 10 people and you must wear a mask. For any questions, please call Marge – 746-3677.

Intro: Pentecost celebrates the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise to send the Holy Spirit to the Church to act as teacher, counselor, advocate, helper – the one who will show us how to speak.

First Reading: Acts 2: 1-11 The descent of the Holy Spirit is described in the first reading. Amid the wind and the fire the disciples are transformed and the Church is born.

Second Reading: 1 Cor 12: 3b-7, 12-13 Paul asserts that no one can proclaim or confess that Jesus is Lord without the presence and action of the Holy Spirit.

Gospel: Jn 20: 19-23 In this Gospel of John proclaimed today, he tells of the giving of the Holy Spirit on the day of his Resurrection. In his first post-Resurrection appearance not only does Christ gives his gift of peace to the disciples but also the gift of the Holy Spirit.

May 31, 2020 Dear Parishioners, Peace and warm greetings to all! Bishop Parkes has announced the resumption of the public celebration of masses within our diocese since the suspension of religious gatherings due to COVID-19 pandemic. This is good news to anyone who wants to go back to normalcy. The truth is we have yet to overcome this “abnormal situation”. However, our faith is stronger today because of some visible developments. We are confident that through God’s grace we will get through this in time - In His time. With the situation that has allowed us with bare minimum of doing things as we observe protocols for greater good of a community, we can expect greater things will happen ahead of our situation as of the present moment. We, as a community of believers of Our Lady of Grace parish, a caring and a sharing community, are grateful and joyful of what we have achieved within days of the lockdown. We have been looking forward for the day that we will be allowed to once again celebrate as a community. We’ve been doing some preparations to get ready for this day. Pentecost Sunday is even more significant because we will be able to return to a more meaningful gathering in the Church. Our masses are important to us for every Eucharistic celebration is a celebration of life. It is the source and the center of our Christian life. That is why, we have waited with eagerness and excitement. We look forward for a gathering, appreciate every physical presence of our brethren and most of all a full communion with Christ in receiving his body in the mass in solemn and prudent fashion. We are aware that masks are a must and physical distancing strongly encouraged as part of the new normal. With all the limitations being laid down upon by the present situation, we all ready and up for the challenge of the changing times. To cater to some vulnerable and the uncomfortable members of our community, we continue to live-stream particular masses with a sound pastoral understanding in the best capacity of our team. I urge you all to remain faithful to God and continue to trust Jesus. I ask you to exercise patience and live its virtue every day of your life especially in situations that we tested of the facts of life. To hope that tomorrow will be different and the promise of better days await, because, nothing is impossible for God. Happy Feast Day! Let us celebrate the life we live. Let us be joyful as a Church as we share our Faith with one another. As promised, we received the Holy Spirit. Let us recognize his in dwelling and appreciate the gifts offered to us. To open our minds and hearts is the only to understand these gifts and how to live with the charism these gifts represent. We are all in fact encouraged to make good use of this gifts with dynamism and to share what we received from God’s bounty and generosity. Welcome my dear parishioners! Fill your hearts with Joy and courage from Jesus. For he himself has conquered the world for us. Informed and strengthened by the Holy Spirit, we continue to live the gospel with courage as we build the Kingdom and we hope to share God’s glory through all eternity. Through the intercession of Our Lady of Grace, let us remain focus on our tasks as members of God’s family. In Christ, Fr Erwin

“To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” 1 Corinthians 12:7

To receive the gift of the Holy Spirit you must open your heart and let Him in! Open your heart and be grateful for all the gifts God has given us. Regardless of your circumstance, God has given us all blessings. What we do with those gifts is our gift back to God. Generously sharing our gifts keeps us more “God-centered” and less “self-centered”.

Celebration of Sunday Masses With the Congregation Present Will begin on Pentecost, May 30-31

We are resuming Sunday Masses with the congregation present on the Feast of Pentecost, this Saturday and Sunday, May 30-31.

Our schedule will be as follows: Daily: Monday through Friday—9:00 AM

Saturday: 4:00 PM Sunday: 8:00 AM, 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM (bilingual)

In celebrating Mass, we at all times will observe established coronavirus safety protocols, such as physical distancing, disinfecting surfaces, sanitizing hands, etc. Your utmost understanding and cooperation will be appreciated. Volunteers will be needed to help disinfect surfaces between Masses, especially after the 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday Masses. To volunteer, contact a hospitality minister or the parish office.

PLEASE SEE PAGE 5 OF THE BULLETIN FOR GUIDELINES TO SAFELY PARTICIPATE IN MASSES AT OUR LADY OF GRACE.

In addition to celebrating Masses with the congregation present in church, we will livestream Sunday Masses at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. This will enable parishioners in their homes to participate in the Liturgy at Our Lady of Grace. Coronavirus protocols limit church occupancy to 50 percent, so overflow will be directed to the PLC to watch Mass on a screen there. During Masses streamlined to the PLC, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist will distribute Holy Communion there at Communion-time.

Masses will be livestreamed via the Our Lady of Grace Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com OurLadyOfGraceBeverlyHillsFL/). There also will be a hotlink to Masses on the Our Lady of Grace

website (https://ourladyofgracefl.org/ Please call the parish office (352-746-2144) with any questions or concerns.

Public Sunday Mass Celebrations at Our Lady of Grace

Welcome back to the public celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass! Please be patient while we all adjust to our new guidelines that will help keep us all safe and healthy. These guidelines are also subject to change as the situation warrants. · Stay home if you are part of a vulnerable population, ill, anxious or have underlying health conditions. Bishop Parkes has dispensed all Catholics in the Diocese of St. Petersburg from their Sunday Mass obligation until further notice.

· Maintain six feet of physical distance from others who are not from the same household while in the church or on church property.

· Please only use the main entrance or the handicapped entrance. A hospitality minister will open the door, so you do not have to touch it. Pews will be marked off to maintain appropriate physical distancing. Hospitality ministers will direct people to open seats. Please follow directions.

· Please be patient as we restrict attendance at Mass in church to no more than a 50% capacity. If you arrive after we reach capacity a hospitality minister will ask you to come back to Mass on another day or perhaps join the over-flow (available for the 4 PM Vigil and the 10:30 Sunday mass) in the PLC Hall where communion will be brought to you by a Eucharistic Minister and mass will be streamed on a screen.

· When you arrive at a pew, please fill in the MIDDLE seats first to avoid having people climb over you as they arrive later. If a hospitality minister asks you to move to the middle, please follow directions.

· Use a face mask or face covering. Masks are not optional. We wear masks during this pandemic to help protect people around us.

· Refrain from physical contact, such as holding hands during the Our Father or the sign of peace.

· Due to difficulty in accessing hand sanitizer for bulk usage, we ask the parishioners to strongly consider bringing their own personal supply of hand sanitizer with them to mass and use it before and after receiving Communion.

· During communion, we ask that you keep a 6-foot distance in the communion line. Please stand on the mark and move forward as the space is vacated. Holy Communion will only be distributed on the hand to protect the priest, eucharistic ministers and your fellow parishioners. Replace your mask after receiving communion. Communion will only be distributed under one species.

· There will be an Offertory Collection box located by the Paschal Candle in front of the ambo, at the back of the church by the main entrance, and in the East Wing. Prayerfully consider placing your offertory envelopes in this box as you enter church or as you leave mass. You may also give via your bank if you use online banking or through the diocesan website at: https://www.dosp.org/stewardship/supporting-your-parish/. This link and directions are also available through the Our Lady of Grace website, FaceBook and in the bulletin.

· As we exit the church, please remember to keep an appropriate amount of space between people. We know we have not seen each other in a while, and it is tempting to linger and socialize but try to do so outside or in more open areas to maintain physical distancing. Please follow the directions of the hospitality ministers as they usher you out.

· If you can wipe down the area you were seated in, please do so. The church will also sanitize the areas in between masses. To ensure that we can do this efficiently between masses, volunteers who can stay and help Moses and Vinny after mass would be very welcome. If you feel that you can do this, please contact the office staff, and let them know.

· Please refrain from using the restrooms unless it is an absolute emergency. Remember that this is new to everyone and we are all trying to keep each other safe and healthy so that we may continue enjoying community and celebrating together. Extend grace and patience to each other, including to the lay ministers and your fellow parishioners. Be mindful and considerate of all those around you. Welcome back!

Sunday Gospel Reflections from Bishop Parkes

Sunday, May 31, 2020 – Pentecost Sunday

Going Forth with the Holy Spirit

Have you ever been asked to do something that you didn’t feel prepared to do? Maybe it was something at work, like being asked to lead a team on an important project. Maybe it was when you found out you were having your first child. Perhaps it was when you were called into a difficult situation to bring words of comfort and compassion. I know I’ve experienced that feeling during my years as a priest and now a bishop. What do you do when you feel inadequate to tackle the task at hand?

This weekend the church celebrates Pentecost, the birthday of the Church, which marks the end of the Easter Season. It’s now

50 days after the resurrection. Despite all they witnessed while in the presence of Jesus, the disciples still had questions...not so much as to who Jesus was, but what they were to do next after he ascended to the Father. In future scriptures we read that Jesus tells them to go to the ends of the earth, proclaiming the good news and baptizing all in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They no doubt questioned if they had what it would take to do so. Could they do it? Did they have the courage to do it?

Those questions may also be in your heart today. This same commandment Jesus gave applies to you and me. Do you have the courage to stand for truth, to love our enemies, to persevere when things seem difficult or impossible, to lead others to know Jesus Christ?

Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete, to give us that courage. It is our vision today in the Diocese of St Petersburg to courageously live the Gospel: to proclaim, invite, and encounter. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, may we emerge from this pandemic and go forth in our circles to proclaim, invite and encounter Christ in our own lives and to invite others to do the same.

- Bishop Gregory Parkes

The volunteers of the OLG food pantry would like to give a special thank you to two wonderful groups that have supported the food pantry for a number of years. This year is no exception.

The Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and the CCW have both been incredible in their ongoing support. This year, once again, they have both made generous contributions that will allow us to provide food for those in need during the coming months. Donations are what keep the food pantry going. We thank everyone who has supported us with food, gift cards, money and prayers. God bless you all.
