The eSAM and Ultra eSAM modems are capable of sending and receiving SMS messages using

ClearSCADA or any other software that supports AT commands over IP. This is accomplished by configuring the

SCADA software to connect to the eSAM over Ethernet using port 6188. Once it is connected, the SCADA software

then sends the modem a series of AT Commands instructing it to send a text message to the appropriate number.

At a minimum, three components are needed to send an SMS message in ClearSCADA

a. A User to send the message to.

b. SMS Pager Service

c. SMS Pager Channel

d. (For alarm redirection) At least one Alarm Redirection

.

The Pager Service is responsible for message coding. It specifies the technical details of what to send.

The Pager Channel is responsible for connecting to the modem. It specifies port and protocol.

The User account must have a mobile number linked to it that ClearSCADA can use

To configure ClearSCADA for SMS Messages, please follow these steps.

1. Connect the eSAM to your ClearSCADA Server using the Ethernet port. Determine the IP Address being used

by the modem – by default, this is set to 192.168.8.1. If you have reconfigured the modem, this may be

something else.

2. Open ClearSCADA and create an SMS Pager Channel. This component will create and manage the link from

ClearSCADA Server to the eSAM using your network.

Set the connection type to TCP/IP, and then enter the IP Address of your modem as the Host Address. The

Port must be set to 6188, as this is the port the eSAM expects AT Commands to be sent to.

3. Open the ‘Channel’ tab. Here, we will specify some more parameters about the Channel.

Please enter the Parameters shown below. The ‘Pager Service’ field cannot be entered until we create a

Pager Service, which we will do later in this guide (The Pager Service will link to the SMS Service)

4. Create the SMS Service Component.

Set the SMS Service as show below. If you require support for Incoming SMS as well as outgoing, you will

need to configure the Incoming SMS section as well. Please contact Intercel or consult the Schneider

documentation for more details on this feature.

At this point we can link the SMS Pager Channel to the SMS Service, as described in the previous step.

5. Next, we can create the User Account. Once we have a user account we will be able to test the SMS Service.

Add a Pager Contact to the User under the ‘Contact Information’ tab. Link this contact to the SMS Service

created in the previous step.

6. At this point we can test the SMS Service. Right click on the User and select ‘Send Pager Message’. You can

then enter the message you want to send using SMS. Once sent, the request will be visible in the Events

screen and you can monitor its progress.

If you are unable to receive a message, please ensure that your networking is properly configured. If you are

unable to resolve the issue, please contact Intercel technical support at [email protected]

7. In order to use Alarm Redirection with the SMS Channel, we will need to add a Pager Action component. It

will specify what message we want to send, and which user to send it to.

Create a Pager Action, and then enter then enter the desired User to contact and the message to send under

the ‘Pager Action’ tab.

Enable the redirector by setting it to ‘In Service’ using the Action tab.

To use the Alarm Redirection, open whichever object you want to trigger the Pager Action and then link its

Redirection settings to the Pager Action.
