Educator Appreciation

BreakfastScheduled for

August 13 The Clear Lake Area Chamber will host its second annual Educator Appreciation Breakfast on Wednesday, August 13, at the Clear Lake Junior High atrium. The Chamber is seeking table sponsors to host tables with up to nine educators and staff at each table. This is a tremendous way for the Clear Lake business community to show their support and appreciation for our hard working teachers and school staff as they start their school year. “The teachers and school staff truly appreciated the breakfast last year,” Tim Coffey, CEO of the Chamber said. “It showed meaningful support of those who influence the next generation of business employees,” Coffey said. For more information on sponsoring a table for this one of a kind event, call Tim Coffey at the Chamber office, 357-2159. ■

Since We Last Spoke

I’m not sure about you, but did the month of July fly by? We hope you enjoyed it! There was never a lack of things to do!! The 4th of July was spectacular in multiple ways. The crowds, the carnival rides, the visitors and their families, the parade, the craft show and then the fireworks. I don’t think there was a parking space to be found or a person without a smile on their face! What about RAGBRAI? Diane Thompson and her planning committee did a super job in throwing a delightful party for our 30,000+ visitors and making them feel at home. More than once I heard people saying, “What a great community!” “You have a gem here” “This is the best stop we have on our ride (to include Okoboji!)” It was a phenomenal day to remember with countless folks from out-of-state, and even several foreign countries. One retailer kept track after a while of where everyone was from – 28 states, and London! Congratulations, Clear Lake, you outdid yourself again! August is set to be a great month, but a bit more focused than July. Let’s see what’s in store for us this month. We will start things off with the Car Cruise and Car Show on August 1-2 around the Lake and around City Park. What another great display of cars that will be, jammed pack full of memories for many of us! If you get hungry on Sunday, August 3, the Evening Lions will have their Hamburger & Sweet Corn Feed in City Park. That will be followed by the Iowa-Minnesota Pirate Festival on August 8-10, the Taste of Clear Lake on August 13, the Educator Appreciation Breakfast on August 13, the Ale to the Arts on August 15, the Beach Fest on August 30, and the Seawall to Seawall Run on August 30. Whew! Almost as busy as July, but that’s Clear Lake for you!! July 2014 was one for the record books, but it seems we always outdo ourselves here in Clear Lake. Thanks for showing up and supporting our community events. Let me know if anything is on your mind. In the meantime, have a super August! ■
