Clean Pursuits to Assist Somos Amigos Develop Sustainable Infrastructure for Domincan RepublicMedical Mission

Currently Engaged in .CO Create Your Opportunity Contest to Accelerate Solar Energy Program

Quincy, MA - In June, 2010, Clean Pursuits team members will join the Somos Amigos medical mission in theDominican Republic to begin developing a sustainable infrastructure project that benefits both Somos Amigosoperations and El Naranjito, the host community. The model for Clean Pursuits is to fundraise for projects likeSolar for Somos Amigos by means of inspiring human-powered events of Clean Pursuits team members. Thefirst major athletic Clean Pursuit will be undertaken in October at the Oil Creek 100 Ultramarathon inPennsylvania, by team members, Matt Marino and Daniel Bellino.

The Clean Pursuits project is currently engaged in the Network Solutions .CO Create Your Opportunity venture contest, which promotes the July release of the “.co” domain extention. The potential $25,000 grand

Somos Amigos is a California-based 501C3 service organization with operations in the Dominican Republic,where volunteer doctors, dentists, nurses and other medical staff - most of them from the U.S. - have servedthousands of local patients since 1997. The organization's facilities in El Naranjito have humble beginnings;initial missions were conducted in the town chapel without electricity or running water. Through the diligentwork of executive director, Frank Brightwell, and the generous support of corporate sponsors and individualdonors, Somos Amigos facilities in El Naranjito now consist of three buildings with electricity from a dieselgenerator, as well as indoor plumbing.

Clean Pursuits is a "for benefit" organization which will support sustainable development in communities inneed. Clean Pursuits will promote and fundraise for its mission through a network of athletes who participatein inspired endurance events and expeditions. The concept for Clean Pursuits is the result of founder MattMarino's interest in sustainable development, considerable experience as a competitive endurance athlete, andthe entrepreneurial training afforded by the MBA program at Boston College, Carroll Graduate School of Management, where he will graduate in May, 2010.

A partnership with Somos Amigos was a natural fit for Clean Pursuits: in 1997, Matt traveled with the program to El Naranjito as a member of a student team from Georgetown Prep, which then supported SomosAmigos missions. That team assisted in the construction of a water system which still serves the community(and the Somos Amigos clinic) today.
