Our health is important because we only have one body. Most of us know that potential-ly harmful ingredients (ie. cancer causing chemicals) lurk in our dai-ly-use beauty and personal care products. Yet in order to avoid these chemicals, one seems to need to be a scientist and study each label under a magnifying glass to decipher which products are indeed safe.

We know this challenge can be overwhelming and time-consum-ing so let us, Clean Care, do the work for you. We are committed to guiding and inspiring you with “clean” body and beauty care op-tions for your bathroom cabinet...

so you can spend your time, effort and money more wisely. For the next several months we will put one crap (ie. potentially harmful) chemical on the hot seat, tell you why it is crap, and put the spotlight on crap-free options. In this issue, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is on the hot seat. Lots of SLS-free face wash and body wash have been featured; these SLS-free and overall crap-free options have been recently entered into Clean Care’s Clean Beauty Awards, which was designed to connect curious shoppers with crap-free products. We are also excited to acquaint you with MarieNatie—the first brand with the Clean Care Seal. Lastly, take a look at the shenan-igans we’ve been up to and see what we’ve got planned for the next little bit. Time to cut the crap! We are ex-cited to bring the best of “clean” beauty and body care products to you and your family.

WHY IS IT USED?Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is a commonly used foaming

agent and cleansing agent.

WHERE CAN IT BE FOUND?SLS are commonly found in products that bubble;

shampoo, soaps, body washes, facial cleansers, etc.

WHY IS IT CONSIDERED “CRAP”?Depending on the manufacturing process, SLS may

be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane (a possible human carcinogen, according to the International Agency for

Research on Cancer).

Though 1,4-dioxane can be removed by vacuum stripping, how would you know whether or not their

products containing SLS have undergone this process?
