Five members from our Canyon Lanes Club 55+ attended the Zone (3) Playoffs at Galaxy Bowl in Abbotsford, BC on May 11th, and participated
with 8 other teams, all of them vying for the win.
Cora Dunlop, Nancy Hill, John Black, Lloyd Forman and Bob Simpson (pictured left to right) won First Place in A Division, scoring 200 pins over and above the second place team. John Black, who is a newcomer to bowl-ing, “played very well and he saved the day", said Cora Dunlop. John scored 120 pins over his average. Way to go John! Galaxy Abbotsford won first

May 28th turned out to be a wet, chilly day for our community’s 89th May Day Celebration. There was some talk that it was only the third time in at least fifty years that the community had to brave such inclement weather. Folks wearing warm clothes and holding umbrel-las came out nonetheless to enjoy the annual May Day tradition. (Even the Royal Party were huddled under fuzzy blankets). Grins were plentiful when the parade kicked off the festivities at 10am. Immediately following was the ‘crowing’ and awards ceremony, then various activities & entertainment planned by a dedicated group of volunteers. In view of the weather, artisans and vendors were grate-
ful to be in the Hall this year.

~ Ms. Debra Devine, Principal BBESS The North Bend Community Center wishes to extend a huge Thank You to everyone who attended our 8th Anniversary on Thursday night, April 28th, to make the evening such a
success.
We also celebrated our building being 100 years old and reflected on how much it has changed from when it was a school. Our museum has many pictures showing all the
changes the building has undergone over the years.
A special thank you to Sandra Clark for the two wonderful cakes she baked and decorated to honour these two special
occasions.
A big THANK YOU goes to Bob Simpson & Morris Tillotson for the work they have put into the North Bend Community Center this spring. Bob redid the bathroom downstairs and Morris built for us much needed shelves for the Thrift Shoppe. Total completion of the bathroom will be in mid June when more parts arrive, so come see what a wonderful job Bob has done. Both projects are thanks to a grant from MLA Laurie Throness.

That ’s Tw o… I didn’t realize this until I sat down to write the Constable’s Corner but June brings us to a time when we mark the second anniversary of us being in this wonderful community. As the old saying goes, time flies when you’re having fun. With that said, we had a lot of fun this past month. As you know, we had the op-portunity to play with a new toy for few weeks. The ALPR equipped vehicle was beneficial to making our roads safer and here are just some of the numbers from the ALPR project:
Lowest amount of vehicles in a day that was checked by the ALPR was 463. Of those 463 vehicles, 16 had some sort of a violation associated to the vehicle or the owner of the vehicle.
Highest amount of vehicles in a day that was checked by the ALPR was 836.
On average, we would check 634 vehicles per day with the ALPR.
On average, of those 634 vehicles, 12 had some sort of a violation associated to the vehicle or the owner of the vehicle. Offences included uninsured vehicles, prohibited drivers and AMBER alerts.
Highways and Motorcycles With nicer weather just around the corner, we have to be cognizant of the increased traffic in our canyon. Increased amount of traffic means more potential for accidents and with hot weather and long weekends in our near future, more motorcycle enthusiasts will also be enjoying our highway. Here are some of the tips on preventing a crash with a motorcycle:
Scan intersections carefully;
Stay Alert and avoid distractions;
Allow at least 3 or 4 seconds of following distance when behind a motorcycle;
Be ready to yield as it is hard to tell how fast a motorcycle is really travelling.
Remember to drive carefully and to give yourself enough time. We want everyone to arrive to their destina-tion safely!
Distracted Dr iv ing F ines are Going Up! For those who were not aware, tickets for distracted driving are going up to $368 from $167. The ticket now comes with 4 demerit points that will cost you $175 for a total of $543. If you collect more than 3 points in 12 months, ICBC will charge you a Driver Penalty Point premium. Remember, leave your phone alone!

I have had meetings with Destination BC and Gold Country Community Society as we continue to work on tourism strategies for the Fraser Canyon. I am also participating on the Fraser Health Steering Committee as we look at utilizing the recent $500,000.00 health grant, given to the Hope Fraser Canyon area, to enhance health services to the area. Promotion of the Gold Rush/ Spirit Trail: I hosted an announcement in 100 Mile House which will enhance the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal historic sites and recreation facilities and trails from Clinton to Barkerville. Also attended was the opening of the 1846 Hudson's Bay Company Trail from Peers Creek* ( near Hope) to the Tulameen. Alexandra Bridge: Plans to enhance parking for cars, RV's and buses would allow for safer movement of vehicles entering and leaving the site. These plans have been forwarded to the Province. Also included would be information kiosks on the history of the Fraser Canyon and Gold Rush Trail as well as walking trails and viewing areas. I attended the Lower Mainland Local Government Associations AGM as well as sessions on the Agricultural Land Commis-sion, First Responders and the B.C. Ambulance Service, Homelessness, Addictions and Mental Health and the effects of technol-ogy. For further information on these sessions, please log on to the LMLGA website: www.lmlga.ca Underway is a conversation with, and investigation, of another company wishing to utilize some of the J.S. Jones property. If you have any further questions or comments, please call me at 604-867-8891. B.C. Government Caucus News Release May 25, 2016 Boston Bar Chilliwack-Hope MLA Laurie Throness announced that work will begin May 30th to fix a section of the rock stack retaining wall on Highway 1, 50 meters north of the parking lot for the Hell's Gate Airtram. Located approximately 11 km south of Boston Bar, this project will construct a retaining wall that will span approximately 22 metres across a section that failed earlier this year. The wall will be anchored by vertical piles drilled into the bedrock to prevent any further occurrences. "Highway 1 is one of our major transportation corridors and the Hell's Gate Airtram is a popular tourist destination along the scenic Fraser Canyon route. These improvements will ensure the road remains safe to travel on." said Throness. Work is scheduled to be completed at the end of July 2016. The project is valued at $1.15 million.
You can follow the work of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure at http://www.tranbc.ca
B.C. Government Caucus News Release May 19, 2016 Boston Bar Students, parents and teachers at Boston Bar Elementary-Secondary School in the Fraser-Cascade School District (SD 78) will see a revamped and refreshed school thanks to $300,000 going to the district under the province's $45-million School Enhance-ment Program. Boston Bar Elementary-Secondary School will receive a boiler upgrade. The province is providing $300,000 in
funding, while the school district is providing $20,000 in funding.
"Routine upgrades will extend the useful life of the school and improve operational efficiencies," Chilliwack-Hope MLA Laurie Throness said. "In small communities like Boston Bar, the school is vital to students and the community and we want to ensure it
has modern upgrades."
The province's School Enhancement Program is helping to improve schools with 80 projects across every school district this year. Districts applied to the Ministry of Education this spring, and successful projects were chosen based on need, priority and supporting student learning. The projects have to be substantially complete by March 31, 2017. This year's $45-million School Enhancement Program builds on last year's $35-million Routine Capital Program investment, which supported 109 school im-provement projects throughout the province. Budget 2016 provides $1.7 billion in capital funding over three years to replace aging facilities, build more student spaces in growing communities and improve seismic safety. As a result of B.C.'s fiscal discipline and
its balanced budget, the government is able to support key investments like the School Enhancement Program.
