That Pacific coast residents ma> have travel rate advantages com- parable to the rates given to east- erners who "go east, Lawson Over- man, district passenger agont fot Southern Pacific Company, an- nounces that a reduction of from 20 to 33 1/3 percent in summer round trip rates to all resort points in the coast states and Alaska will be effective from April 30 to Sept. 30. Tickets with a three-month re- turn .limit will have 20 percent re- duction and those with 16-day llm t will be reduced 33 1/3 percent. All of the western railroads and steamship lines have joined in the rate cut in line with the proposals and recommendations of their travel bureaus and ticket agencies that the "home-folk" of the west desiring to see their own country be given rate advantages compar- able to those given on the long haul transcontinental routes and from the east. The largest per- centage of national parks, monu- ments and scenic routes of the country are in the territory bene- fited by the new rates, it was .said by the -transportation officials. Nash To Absorb Automobile Taxes Until Levy Ends Decisive action by the Nash Mo- tors Company relative to con- gressional adoption of the automo- bile tax reduction measure is re- ported by E. H. McCarty, Nash "Word was wired our distribut- ing organization March 5/' stated Mr. McCarty, "informing them that in accordance with the established Nash policy of protecting its deal- ers and customers to the fullest possible extent, we would absorb he tax reduction up to March 28, nclusive, when the government re- duction becomes operative. "This action, covering all deliv- eries of Nash and Ajax cars to customers, was made effective by the Nash Motors Company and the Ajax Motors Company March 6. Although the passage of this tax reduction law had been expected by the Industry and the public, it nevertheless contributed to a bet- ter feeling generally throughout the dealer body and among automobile juyers, as well s.s among manufac- turers, because It removed uncer- tainty and is regarded in most quarters as being a far. step for- ward toward the ultimate freeing of the Industry from the burden f special taxation. 'So far as our figures on na- lonal retail sales show, there has been no particular disposition on he part of Nash and Ajax cus- omers to delay their purchases ntil the tax reduction measure be- omes operative. In fact, the rgent demand from all sections f the country has forced our plant o overtime work and by far the reatest production on Nash ever chleved in the history of the ompany. while at the same time Ajax . sales and production are stablishing new high records." The greatest opportunity afford- ed the student body this year was that of hearing Dr. Charles Barker, speaker for the International Ro- tary Club. He spoke on "How to Get the Most Out of Life," and showed that the essentials of a successful life are a strong arm, a clear brain and a brave heart, and told the students how to ob- tain each. Dr. Barker certainly "sold" his lecture, judging by the applause which followed his ad- dress! The T. H. S. student body is very grateful to the combined -Rotary Clubs of Torrance and Re- dondo, who made Dr. Barker's visit possible. The chemistry class has been given an opportunity. Mr. Mowry has secured 15 tickets for the lec- ture to be given March 11 at the Los Angeles High School. This lecture Is to be given by Dr. Mll- 1 ken, the discoverer of the Mil- liken ray. This Is the first year that Torrance has ever won a cup or pennant in anything, and we are very proud of our I ghtwelghts. The Chemistry classes went to the Columbia Steel Works on Tuesday to see how Iron Is cast In the foundry. It was a great treat to see the white-hot molten metal run xllke water, then become solid iron when cool. The Girls1 League had a short and peppy meeting Thursday. Everyone held their breaths till after it was announced that the A9 class had won the banner for the highest middle records. The G. A. A. president announced that the senior girls would play basket- ball with the faculty women soon. The meeting was dismissed and all reported at the auditorium for a Joint meeting, with the boys. The auto shop classes are enjoy- ing several reels of film showing various phases of the automobile industry. Until Levy EndsDecisive action by the Nash Mo

tors Company relative to con gressional adoption of the automo bile tax reduction measure is re ported by E. H. McCarty, Nash

"Word was wired our distribut ing organization March 5/' stated Mr. McCarty, "informing them that in accordance with the established Nash policy of protecting its deal ers and customers to the fullest possible extent, we would absorb he tax reduction up to March 28, nclusive, when the government re

duction becomes operative. "This action, covering all deliv

eries of Nash and Ajax cars to customers, was made effective by the Nash Motors Company and the Ajax Motors Company March 6. Although the passage of this tax reduction law had been expected by the Industry and the public, it nevertheless contributed to a bet ter feeling generally throughout the dealer body and among automobile juyers, as well s.s among manufac

turers, because It removed uncer tainty and is regarded in most quarters as being a far. step for ward toward the ultimate freeing of the Industry from the burden f special taxation. 'So far as our figures on na-

lonal retail sales show, there has been no particular disposition on he part of Nash and Ajax cus- omers to delay their purchases ntil the tax reduction measure be- omes operative. In fact, the rgent demand from all sections f the country has forced our plant o overtime work and by far the reatest production on Nash ever chleved in the history of the ompany. while at the same time

Ajax . sales and production are stablishing new high records."
