Principles of Mediation for Workplace Conflict Learn how the fundamentals of mediation can be applied to the conflicts that occur in most workplaces. We’ll review the process of mediation and various ideas, tools and techniques that allow for successful conflict management. We’ll also discuss how to address difficult people and varying cultural differences in the context of workplace disputes. Topics covered include conflict type, perception and meaning differences, background and starting point considerations, short-term and long-term solutions and mediation examples. Attendees will learn how to apply the fundamentals of mediation to resolve their disputes. Violent Workplace Emergencies — The Active Shooter Violent workplace emergencies are happening around the country every day. Is your business prepared? Workforce and Professional Development ClassesPrinciples of Lean Manufacturing (with simulation) NEW! Learn the basic understanding of lean manufacturing principles used to drive company improvement efforts. Participants will gain an understanding of lean methods, their purpose, and the problem that each tool is designed to solve. Topics will include Value stream mapping, workflow analysis and identifying waste, pull production and scheduling, 5S workplace organization, visual workplace and visual management, standard work, workforce flexibility and cross training, Kanban, SMED (Changeover time reduction), and mistake proofing. Problem Solving and Root Cause AnalysisLearn the basic concepts of problem solving and root cause analysis. By the end of this course, you will understand the plan-do-check-act process and how it is used to define a problem, analyze a problem, develop a plan to fix a problem, and implement a solution and conduct proper follow-up. The course will focus on the 5W2H process for problem investigation, use of cause-and-effect diagrams, 5 Why techniques and how to determine root cause and to develop permanent countermeasures that address the root cause. Learn the different sources of variation and how to use cause-and-effect logic to validate that a problem analysis was done properly. Outcomes-Based Strategic Planning NEW!This program will help organizations approach strategic planning and program design with the right sequence of questions in mind. Computers? I Don’t Even Know How to Turn Mine on Computers are everywhere, whether it’s a tablet, smartphone, laptop, desktop, or food ordering terminal at your local convenient store. It would be difficult to go one day without seeing or using one of these devices. Come learn basic skills that will create a solid foundation. This course is for persons who are very new to the digital world and have little to no knowledge about computers. You will learn basic terms, web browsing, email set up, basic navigation of the Windows operating system, how to create a backup, and much more. Later in the course, you will learn some security tips and tricks on how to stay safe and secure while using your computer. Instagram and Facebook for BusinessIt is reported that there are 800 million active monthly Instagram users and 2 billion on Facebook. There is a good chance that many of YOUR clients are active on these platforms. They are looking at content, but are they looking at your content? This workshop will help you become better at using these platforms for business. We will go over best practices and also photography tips so that you can do better or start your first account. This informative class will be led by Donnie Rosie, a marketing director for a non-profit, a professional photographer, and a marketing consultant managing several Instagram accounts. Introduction to Microsoft AccessLearn the many uses for the latest version of this powerful Microsoft program. Review new features for 2013/2016, and learn database terms and concepts, field types, data types, and data rules and conventions. Create a basic table, query, form, and report both by using wizards and by designing from scratch. We’ll also introduce you to table relationships. Biological Art During this workshop, you will create a unique art piece using microbes. Over this two-week workshop, you will be able to make designs using bacteria and learn about the large variety of different microbes that make up our planet. Acrylic PouringThis new and exciting technique will have participants pouring paint onto the canvas instead of the traditional painting method. Each participant will create their own painting, and no two will ever look alike. Session I : October 4 Bad Bradford by Sally Costik. Wicked women and wild times were the hallmark of the early days in Bradford when “the air smelled of naughtiness and oil.” Learn what really happened back in those crazy oil boom days as Bradford struggled to become a city.

Bradford Firsts by Dean Fox. Did you know that Bradford can boast of being the “first” in many things, such as being the first to put oil in cans not glass jars? Learn all about our claim to be the first!

Session II: October 11, 2018The Good, the Bad, the Ugly and the Scary: The history of Allegany State Park. Bob Schmid, historian of the Park, for over 30 years will entertain you with stories of animals, ghosts, camping, and occasional mayhem at the park.

Passenger Pigeons by Isabelle Champlin. The history behind the now extinct passenger pigeon, once so numerous that their flocks blocked out the sun. Champlin will give an enthusiastic lecture on this remarkable bird.

Session III: October 18, 2018Rock City Park Rocks! By Cindy and Dale Smith. A popular attraction since 1890, these amazing rock formations have drawn visitors since the Victorian age – some coming by trolley! Cindy and Dale Smith, owners, director, and ranger, will entertain and educate you on this unique natural park.

Football at its Finest. John Place, associated with the Big 30 All-Star Charities Classic for 42 years, knows his football! He’ll share the history behind the rivalries, and the highlights of Bradford High School, St. Bernard, and Central Christian football teams throughout the years.

Stained Glass Mosaic Tile — BeginnerYou will learn how to create a 5x7 mosaic out of beautiful stained glass. Learn the art of gluing and grouting glass on a variety of surfaces to create wonderful and unique stained glass projects. All materials will be provided. Stained Glass Mosaic Tile — AdvancedIn this three-session class, participants will create a mosaic plaque with their own image. Instruction will focus on cutting, design, gluing and grouting techniques while using beautiful glass and tile materials. Students will leave with a ready-to-hang mosaic! Intro to Drone Operation and PhotographyDrones are a growing sport, industry, and hobby with much to learn and understand. This is a short class to introduce drones and share tips on basic operations. We plan to cover some of the legalities of flying a drone, how to get an FAA Drone Pilot License, and gain some tips for great shots. You will also see examples of very successful drone photography/video. We will also cover recommended drones for purchase as well as what drones are good for different applications. Bring your drone if you have one, weather permitting we will plan on flying the second night. The class will be led by Donnie Rosie, an FAA Drone Licensed Pilot with experience in real estate photography and videography. Watercolor PaintingIn this two-night class, we will explore the use of color and technique. The instructor will share her process of selecting the proper materials to get started and teach you how to create a unique color palette. Yoga with Kathy Yoga with Kathy is a combination of Vinyasa and Hatha yoga. The flows (classes) link several poses together to create strength, flexibility, endurance and balance. What’s in your Pond? Introduction to AlgaeDuring this workshop, you will learn about the colourful world of algae. We will discover the beauty of algae with its variety of colours, shapes and sizes. We will explore the biology of these unique organisms and learn about the amazing things algae can be used for, such as food, biofuels and cosmetics. Basic Digital PhotographyIf you are interested in learning more about how to use your digital camera besides just “pointing and shooting” then you will want to take this course. You will learn about framing, composi-tion, and creativity in taking great pictures. Topics will include taking not just good, but great pictures; introduc-ing basic camera functions and their uses; taking pictures beyond the ordinary; and handling special scenes, including backlit scenes, sports and action photos, family and children portraits, landscapes, close-ups, and macro photography. Advanced Digital Photography Learn the creative side of using an adjustable 35mm digital SLR camera. You will learn how to use manual features of your camera to create custom compositions, set your own exposure settings (f-stops and shutter speeds), and ISO and modes. Find out more about manual focus vs. autofocus, use lenses available for your camera (wide, telephoto, zoom, macro, etc.) and how to use basic filters, close-up lenses, macro and flash photography. Wellness ProgramWe are pleased to continue to offer our popular Wellness Program, which enables you to enroll in any one-credit physical education class* and have full access to all the facilities offered in the Richard E. and Ruth McDowell Sport and Fitness Center. This program is open only to participants 18 and older.
