Pride in your work It is really important that you take pride in your French work, both at school and at home. This includes looking after your book and presenting your work properly. Your book is a reference guide, a record of your work, a revision guide and somewhere to showcase what you can do. In order to treat it with respect, please make sure you are following the guidelines below:

Although we would encourage the use of colour in your book to help you remember things (e.g., masculine = blue, feminine = red, plural = purple), your handwriting should be in blue or black pen.

Always give your work a date and title at the top and make sure this is underlined. In French lessons, we write the date in French!

When starting new work, rule off after the last piece of work and start the new work immediately underneath, if there is space.

Homework should be entitled ‘les devoirs’

If you complete work elsewhere, please record where in your exercise book, with a date. For example, if you complete an exercise on page 56 in your Cahier de Classe, you should write ‘Cahier de Classe, Page 56’.

If you complete any work on worksheets or if you print out work that you have done on the computer, this should be stuck in your book immediately, with a date and title as normal.

Before handing in longer pieces of work, check for mistakes. Use a green pen to correct any errors that you spot.

Longer pieces of work should be given an ATL score between 1 and 5. 5 = tried your very hardest; 1 = no real effort. BE HONEST!

We will mark your work using highlighters. Yellow will be used for outstanding French. Blue will be used where you need to correct something. NOT EVERYTHING WILL BE HIGHLIGHTED. It is up to you to correct the blue bits. The next time we mark your work, your corrections will be marked with a tick. If you need more support, see your teacher, or look on the websites in the marking glossary.

The practice of using (ONLINE) TRANSLATORS to complete your work is strictly forbidden. It is tantamount to plagiarism. If we suspect this kind of practice, we will not mark your work and will require you to redo it. We welcome the use of paper dictionaries, however, and there are also some very good online dictionaries: http://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english-french , www.wordreference.com and http://www.larousse.com/en/dictionaries/french-english are a few that we use. If looking up new words, please keep a list of these in your book with the English. With nouns always write the gender and with verbs make sure you write the infinitive.

Que faire à Keswick ?

J’habite dans une petite ville qui est plutôt

touristique et qui n’est pas très tranquille! Il y a

beaucoup à faire pour les jeunes. On peut aller au

cinéma ou aller en ville et rencontrer les amis. Les

jeunes peuvent faire des balades aussi ou faire du

canoë au lac, mais je n’aime pas faire ça. Je préfère

aller aux magasins!

Que faire à Keswick ?

J’habite dans une petite ville qui est assez jolie.

C’est touristique et il y a beaucoup de festivals. Par

exemple, en mai il y a le festival de montagne. Au

festival de montagne on peut faire du sport et

rencontrer les amis. J’ai visité le festival de jazz en

mars et c’était fantastique! J’ai acheté des frites et

un coca. Au festival de jazz on peut écouter de la

musique et à mon avis c’est un festival excellent

parce que la musique m’intéresse beaucoup et on

peut danser.

Comment serait ta ville idéale ?

Dans ma ville idéale il y aurait une grande bibliothèque parce que j’adore lire. ll y aurait aussi un festival de litérature chaque année où j’invitérais tous les écrivains célèbres. Ce serait absolument fantastique!

Moi, j’adore le sport, donc ma ville idéale aurait beaucoup de terrains de sport! Il y aurait une grande stade pour les matches de foot et aussi il y aurait une piscine énorme où on pourrait faire de la natation tous les jours et on ne payerait pas!

SI CLAUSES Si clauses are used to express a hypothetical situation (e.g. if I won the lottery, I would travel

the world). In French, they are used by combining the imperfect tense with the conditional tense :

si je gagnais le loto, je voyagerais autour du monde

the imperfect tense is formed by taking the ‘nous’ form of the present tense, dropping the ‘ons’ and adding the correct imperfect ending: nous avons -> av j’avais tu avais il/elle avait nous avions vous aviez ils/elles avaient

the conditional tense is formed by taking the infinitive of the verb and dropping the final ‘e’ if the verb ends in an e, before adding the correct conditional ending: VOYAGER je voyagerais tu voyagerais il/elle voyagerait nous voyagerions vous voyageriez ils/elles voyageraient

J’habite dans une petite ville dans le nord d’Angleterre. J’aime

bien ma ville, parce que c’est très pittoresque et assez

tranquille. Aussi ma famille habite dans ma ville et j’adore ça.

Cependant, ma ville n’est pas parfaite et j’aimerais changer

quelques choses ! Par exemple, si j’étais maire, il y aurait

beaucoup plus de magasins dans ma ville. J’adore faire du

shopping ! En plus, si j’avais 18 ans, je voudrais aller dans les

pubs pour boire une bière avec mes amis. Il y aurait aussi plus

de bons restaurants : j’aime la cuisine italienne et la cuisine

chinoise. Si j’étais plus jeune, ce serait super d’avoir un grand

parc, où je pourrais jouer au foot. Mon grand frère préfère

faire de la natation, donc s’il était maire, il installerait une

piscine énorme et il nagerait tous les jours.
