House Bill 588 - Top 10% Rule

• Rank in the Top 10% of your class.

• Must graduate Foundation with Endorsement-Distinguished Level of Achievement

• Enroll in college no more than 2 years after graduating from high school.

• Complete application process to a Texas public university before application deadline.

• The 2009 Legislative Session granted UT Austin permission to raise the admission standard to admit students in the top 7% of their graduating class.

Honor Graduates shall be determined after completion of the first semester of the senior year to include any student with the following cumulative grade point averages:

• Summa Cum Laude: 6.0-5.0

• Magna Cum Laude: 4.99-4.75

• Cum Laude: 4.74-4.5

College Visit Policy

Per CCISD district policy, students may havetwo college visits in their junior year and twocollege visits in their senior year, with twoweek prior approval from their AssistantPrincipal and a letter from the college verifyingattendance on the campus. Absences for pre-approved college visits do not affect springfinal exam exemptions.

• Standardized exam designed to assess college readiness for entering freshman-level students in the areas of mathematics, reading, and writing; must be completed before a student can earn any hours for coursework

• Some students may be able to exempt the TSIwith certain scores on other standardized exams, such as the SAT or ACT
