Recent professional activities & accomplishments: I retired at the end of 2013, after 36-1/2 years in the practice of general pediatrics at the Wayzata Children's Clinic. Family news: Barbara and I have two sons, each of whom is an attorney. Ben and his wife have a daughter (13) and a son (10); Joe and his wife have two daughters (5 and 2). Other news/activities/hobbies: Barbara and I have been trying over the past few years to learn to speak French. In pursuit of this goal we have been forced to travel to France three times to practice our rudimentary skills. Tough job!

Recent professional activities & accomplishments: I retired from the UCF Department of Philosophy in 2011, but I continue to write and publish, mostly on environmental philosophy. I have chapters in the recently published books Life on the Brink: Environmentalists Confront Overpopulation , ed. Philip Cafaro and Eileen Crist (2012), The Science, Politics, and Ontology of Life-Philosophy, ed. Scott Campbell and Paul Bruno (2013), and Human Security and World Affairs: Problems and Opportunities, ed. Alex and Sabrina Lautensach (2013), plus several articles forthcoming. I am currently reviewing The Master and His Emissary: The Divided Brain and the Making of the Western World , by Iain McGilchrist, for the journal Environmental Ethics ; this book presents a very interesting hypothesis regarding the role our hemispheric asymmetry may be playing in the very problematic way our current culture deals with its "environment," something that I have thought about since my own involvement in such research during medical school. Family news: My husband John and I recently celebrated our 10-year anniversary; I continue to be amazed at how well we get along, despite very different backgrounds. Other news/activities/hobbies: Costa Rica is a beautiful country, with around 25% of its land protected (at least on paper) in nature reserves. I was there in 1987, when I was in grad school, taking a course in tropical biology with the OTS program, and always wanted to go back; now, with retirement and a husband fluent in Spanish, why not? We are living in the foothills of the Talamanca mountains, by a river that sometimes rages in the rainy season. Beautiful tanagers and other birds flock to the fruit we put out in our back yard, green iguanas and basilisks hang out on the rocks, and white-faced capuchins sometimes come close enough to grab a banana or two. We still own property in Florida and travel back and forth, but who knows what the future will bring?

From the first day when Dr. Cade wanted to know who drove motorcycles to Dr. Hill's lectures and sayings, to Dr. Taylor's teaching physical diagnosis and intimidating smile, it was a growing up experience. The twins are in charge of the Pediatric Practice – Fletcher IV – operations manager and Rozalyn Thomas MD - Pediatrician Other news/activities/hobbies: I was diagnosed with Multiple Myelomas – I had stem cell transplant at the Sylvester Center in Miami on 11/25/13. I am in the recovery stage and had good results. I love to read and I have many orchids on my patio and in the yard. Favorite memory of medical school and/or Gainesville: During the clinical rotation in Ob-Gyn. I had the experience of delivering a baby. The infant was vertex positive. There were no problems, however, there was no one to rotate the baby. She was crying, alert but I was so excited with the baby that the nurse called me to finish with the mother. I guess it was because of the Pediatrician in me.
