LITERACYWe finished characterization this week by creating character trading cards and taking a formal assessment on Thursday. On Friday, we began learning about context clues. For word work, we are alternating between two weeks of vocabulary study using Wordly Wise and two weeks of spelling patterns using Words Their Way lists.

MATH We learned about prime and composite numbers this week and reviewed the difference between factors and multiples. Prime numbers have only two factors, one and themselves. They can be odd or even. Composite numbers have three or more factors and can be odd or even. Factors are the numbers that you multiply to get products. Multiples are all the products for a given number. Please reinforce this at home.

IB UNIT OF INQUIRY

How We Organize Ourselves: Let’s Get Down to Business. Our central idea, economies are interconnected, is being taught through the following lines of inquiry:

- The impact of available resources on economies

- Causes of regional growth and decline

- The duty of a citizen in his/her economy

Key Concepts: causation, connection and responsibilityThis week we began lessons provided to us by JA BizTown to prepare us for our upcoming field trip on Wednesday, 10/21! Students learned about financial institutions, how to write checks and balance check registers. They also reviewed concepts of taxes and interest and learned what jobs they’d be doing at JA BizTown!

Important Information for Wednesday

- Students will not be allowed to go without both CMS and a Biztown permission slips.

- Please make sure your child arrives to school on time.

- Space for chaperones was limited and we could only accept the first 20 that were returned.

- If you’re packing a lunch for your child, it must be sent in a disposable paper or plastic bag instead of a lunchbox.
