HERE IS HOW YOU CAN HELP YOUR SCHOLAR:
Please sign the daily communication log located in the Life Work Binder each night.
Please be sure that your child reads each night. Ask your child about the setting in the story, who are the main characters, main idea, and problem
and solution.
Homework is sent home every night and is due the next day. Please help your scholar complete
this. These are the same skills we work on in class and your scholar should be able to
complete it with some assistance.
Please continue to check Kickboard for your scholar’s grades.
SIGHT WORDSPlease make sure to be practicing sight words that have been sent home with your scholar. First grade scholars should know 200 sight
words by the end of the year.On April 1, 2016, I will send out a list of sight words. Please use this sheet to create flash
cards on index cards and review with your child each day. With practice and repetition, your child will know the words quickly and this will
help with reading fluency.

UPA Scholars Posing University Preparatory Academy is looking for scholars!
Do you know families that may be interested in the University Preparatory Academy experience?
Our classes are filled with rigorous academics, character and leadership development, and individualized help for students that are in need.

MathThis month we will continue to learn about place
value, comparison, and addition/subtraction to 40.
Social Studies and Science
During the month of May, we will focus on Explorers and Early Exploration. Students will be able to: define the word “historian”, define the word “sequence”, create a timeline using pre-determined dates, and identify and explain the purpose of using/creating a timeline.
In Science, we will continue explore Scientists and Scientific Thoughts. Students will learn to identify a scientist is a person who is interested in the world and does research to find out about how things work and why things happen, construct a list of characteristics that scientist possess, and compare and contrast themselves as scientist.
