Students will also learn animation tricks from the Japanese Anime masters and Tezuka Productions! Learn how to draw dynamic figures and characters that feel like they pop off the page! Design fun fantasy worlds for your characters to roam in!The course will begin with the short handmade animated films of Windsor Mccay, the Father of animation. Students will draw inspiration from watching classic cartoons from 1930 – 2000 including: The first Disney short cartoons and movies, Han-nah-Barbara classics such as Space Ghost, The Herculoids, the Flintstones, Rocky and Bullwinkle, classic superhero cartoons from the 40’s - 90’s Batman the Animated Series, Max Fleish-er’s Superman.The goal for this class is for each student to develop their own unique characters with back stories and a unique world for them to live in by the end of the semester.

This class will utilize experi-mental ways of painting and mark making, focusing on the act for painting rather than the final image. Students in Advanced Drawing Stu-dio will explore drawing techniques using a variety of pencils, ink, charcoal, and oil / chalk pastel. This class is designed to leverage the student’s skills from the beginner class and take Jr.FLL teams to the next level. Using the LEGO® Education WeDo™ system designed specifically to bring the fun and challenge of robotics to students ages 7 to 11. Team members will build LEGO models featuring working motors and sensors, program their models with colorful, vis-ual software designed for kids, and explore a series of cross-curricular, theme based activities while developing their skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, as well as language and literacy. The class allows for building models that are more robust and intelligent too! This class provides a smooth transition to the skills needed in the FIRST LEGO League.

After3 Comedy Club with Improv KidsGrades:3–7Day(s): Wednesday$350Students will learn valuable theater and comedy performing skills while developing a comedy show at the end of the se-mester. While Improvisation is the focus, those interested in Stand-Up and Sketch Comedy will have the opportunity to create original material. Program Director, Walt Frasier, has appeared on Late Night with Letterman, MTV, VH1, WE, Nick, Off Broadway, Broadway Tours and more. Mr. Frasier is the Artistic Director of EIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH. His staff performs 500+ shows every year.

Bass Guitar Class NEW!With Giacomo MeregaGrades: 4–8Day(s): Friday$350As we all know (yes: guitar players included), the bass is the only instrument that provides foundation both rhythmically and harmonically in most musical styles. This course will take a historical approach to the electric bass, surveying specific styles, techniques and grooves from rock to funk, from jazz to reggae. Prominent bassists in each style will be presented and studied. Students will also learn rudiments of bass clef reading and some essential concepts of music theory. Each student is required to bring his/her own bass, everything else will be provided.

Facilitated by adult mentors, the students research, think critically and imagine ways to solve the challenge pertaining to Super seniors improve the quality of life for seniors. The students will be mentored to produce both (1) a tri-fold poster of the team journey and (2) a LEGO model with at least one movable piece comprised of 400 to 1,000 LEGO parts during the season. This course fosters teamwork and critical thinking. This will be a fun journey where imagination and creativity are mapped to building a movable machine.

It is a Martial Art that combines kicks and acrobatics, dance and cart wheels. Capoeira is from Brazil and is popular all over the world. The class is taught by capoei-ra teaching artists from Afro Brazil Arts under the direction of Mestre Ombrinho, the first North American master. In addition to chess, other mind games will be introduced towards the end class to improve problem solving and critical thinking.

Comics Club with Sophocles PlokamakisGrades: 3–6Day(s): Tuesday$375Think you know a lot about comics? Guess again! In this class students will learn to appreciate the language of comics, and how they work. Students will be introduced to comics from around the globe such as super hero comics from the U.S., Jap-anese Manga, European comics, Chinese Manwa and Korean Manhwa. Read comics from all genres such as action, sci-fi, comedy, magical girls, comic strips, martial arts, fantasy, biog-raphies, non-fiction, mysteries, westerns and sports! Learn the history of comic books and their secret origin! Students will also learn how to create rough drafts for comic pages (thumb-nails) and how to design COOL COMIC PAGES! Study fa-mous maverick cartoonists from the late 19th century to the present. Delve into the minds and hands of the pro cartoon-ist by learning to use professional comic art tools to learn the techniques and tricks of the trade. Everyone will learn new things in this course. We will be incorpo-rating fundamentals of math, science, reading, and art as we make our yummy treats. Crazy Chemworks and Secret Agent Lab Grades: 1–2Day(s): Monday OR Friday$375 Per DayPt I - Come and spark imaginative learning with some Mad Chemistry. Watch as we combine elements and make the fizz, crackle and change color! We'll delve into molecules and chemical reactions that produce light, gas and even slime. Some of the weekly topics in this session include: Lab Works, Junior Reactors, P.H. Phactor, Slime Time, The Glow Show, Dry Ice Capades, Icky Sticky Stuff, Chemistry Corner, The Mystery of Chem and Kitchen Chemistry. Pt II - Step into the shoes of a detective and uncover the sci-ence involved in evidence gathering and analysis. You will probe the science of tracking as you stamp out scenarios and uncover codes in this session. Debate Clubwith Elise Herbruger & Jill NeibergGrades: 5–8Day(s): Wednesday$375Debate Club seeks students who like to research, organize notes and argue about current events and important topics! (Past topics have included military drones, NYC bike lanes, charter schools and carbon emissions cap and trade pro-grams.) We are a competitive team with league tournaments on 5–7 Saturdays throughout the school year. Aside from our weekly meetings, students have the responsibility to do 1 hour a week at home to prepare for tournaments. Parents will also be required to train as league judges, serving at least one Sat-urday in the school year. Drama with RanaGrades: 3–8Day(s): Thursday$375 (Please be advised that this class does not offically start until feb-ruary 15th due to birdhouse players productions. Participants will go to homework club for first two weeks of semester. Please do not request that this course be prorated.) Offering new and on-going students the opportunity to ex-plore/expand acting techniques through theater games, im-provisational exercises, and in-depth scene/monologue study. Class will also learn audition skills, cold-reading practice, and select suitable material for future casting calls (either profes-sional or recreational). Explore concepts in physics, mechanical engineering, structural engineering, and archi-tecture while playing with your favorite creations. This is a

Fabulous Fabrics in Fashion with Kasia Wisniewski Grades: 3–6Day(s): Thursday$375We’ll create our own unique fabrics the way top designers do, then fashion them into fun accessories and garments for com-pletely one-of-a-kind pieces! Students will explore color and print creation, then use a variety of surface design techniques including resist painting, block printing, and water color to transform ordinary fabric to something extraordinary. We’ll take it a step further when we take it to the sewing machine. No previous experience needed. This class teaches you the ba-sics of sewing while you work on your unique projects. If this is your first time sewing, you will start off with some great beginner items. And if you’ve been sewing for a while, you will be challenged and develop your skills.($25 materials fee included.)

Fashion Designer Bootcamp with Kasia WisniewskiGrades: 3–6Day(s): Tuesday$375How do designers bring their ideas to life? This class explores the elements of fashion design and illustration. Like your fa-vorite designers, we’ll talk about inspiration, explore color, and create sketches, then we’ll bring those ideas to life using simple sewing techniques with BIG impact. We’ll also work on special techniques to take your designs to the next level, like appliqué and embroidery. No experience necessary, but if you’ve sewn before, there will be plenty of chances to chal-lenge yourself! At the end, we’ll celebrate with a mini fashion show to show off your creations! ($25 materials fee included.)

Fencingwith Sheridan Fencing AcademyGrades: 2–8Day(s): Wednesday$400Students enjoy a step-wise, intensive introduction to the tech-nique, rules, strategy and improvisational beauty of the sport of fencing. They enjoy the learning process and take pride and pleasure in their efforts by focusing on the rewards, not the labor involved. Through activities and exercises they develop fundamental skills in a way that brings fun and exuberance to the learning process. From the first traditional salute at the beginning of class to bouting practice at its end, the focus is on good sportsmanship, self-regulation, athleticism and the magic of the swash and buckle. Students are broken up into two groups of classes that run for 45 minutes each. Children not in class will be in Homework Club.

The first part of the course will be dedicated to design a puppet for your own hands and create all the single part you will assemble in the middle of the semester. The last part of the course will be dedicated to create a show and lear how to give a personality to your puppets using tone control and hand movements.

We will talk about recycling, folk art and DIY cul-ture. Whether your child is an absolute absolute beginner or a dancer with a lot of experi-ence, Monique works to the individual strengths of each child through games and exercises, giving them the tools and con-fidence to tackle choreography suited to their level. Exercises and choreography will be based in the hip hop fundamental techniques of popping, locking and break dance, as well as contemporary commercial styles like Street Jazz and popular party dances. Swimming with Physique Swim SchoolGrades: 1–8Day(s): Tuesday OR Friday$450 Per DayLearning to swim takes time, practice, and patience, but the re-wards are tremendous. The faculty of Physique Swim School, believe that swimming is an essential part of a full life. Us-ing unique and dynamic teaching methods, the experienced staff will take Nest+m kids the whole way from beginners to master-swimmers. Upon completion of a swim level, each stu-dent receives a certificate of achievement, they then have it as a constant reminder of what they have achieved, and what they are capable of achieving in the future. More advanced students will train as if on a swim team where they will learn how to swim better, faster and efficiently. There are two essential parts to successful swimming – technique and training. Technique will be addressed first as a foundation. Once your child has se-cured good technique, appropriative workouts become more effective. These workouts will combine stroke/ kicking drills, and interval sets, which together will make training more ef-fective and fun. Children are divided up into five groups based on skill level. Instructor to Child ratio is 1:4 at the beginner levels and increases slightly with level.

Video Game Design using GameStar Mechanicwith Tam Myaing & Reynaldo VargasGrades: 4–6Day(s): Wednesday$375Learn how to create video and non/video games with Games-tar Mechanic. Gamestar is a game and online community that teaches kids game design through quests and courses to create video games that they can share with their friends and family. The craft of Game Design leads to the development of critical 21st Century skills. Designing a successful game utilities the following: Systems Thinking; Creative Problem Solving, Art/Aesthetics, Writing/Storytelling; Programming/Technical De-sign; and Communication/Collaboration. Kids will use pro-fessional tools (e.g. Photoshop), and take part in challenging collaborative game projects gaining a better understanding of what makes an interesting game.  The kids will play, test, and review each other’s games.  This course is taught by Tam Mya-ing and Reynaldo Vargas. Tam has been a game designer for 30 years and designs and engineers games both as a hobby and professionally. They will get to see and play with hundreds of the original Yugioh! cards in person. Students will get to read the Yugioh! Manga, watch the anime and the first Yugioh! animated film.
