WHAT IS CLASS DOJO?

•Class Dojo is a classroom tool the helps manage and improve student behavior, improve student engagement in the classroom, and allows parents to monitor and track their child’s behavior and progress.

HELPFUL INFORMATION FOR EDUCATORS!

• Class Dojo is a free program which you can access from any device with internet• (I use my laptop connected to my SMARTBoard & the app on my phone)

• To sign up and create a teacher profile go to www.classdojo.com

• After you sign up THE FUN BEGINS!!! You can start customizing your profile by adding your classes, the students in your classes and the behaviors you want students to exhibit as well as refrain from.

• When you acknowledge a student (or students) for exhibiting positive behavior the student(s) are awarded a point. If you acknowledge the student is exhibiting a negative behavior a point will be subtracted from their point total.• In my classroom we do not use class dojo to acknowledge negative behavior because we

want it to be a positive intervention system and we don’t want points to be subtracted so we only use the positive behaviors (and use a different school wide system for negative behaviors).

HOW TO SET UP YOUR CLASSES

Click on the Add your class button and fill in the needed information

Add your students (I use first and last name so I can use this as official data)

Customize the behaviors you are looking for (Positive) and the behaviors you are looking to deter (negative). You can add to and subtract from the pre-maid behaviors. You can also change the wording and the icons for each behavior.

Please note: If you teach more than one group of students you can create multiple classes under you profile.

You can import behaviors from other classes you have created so you do not need to start from scratch with each new class you create.

AFTER YOU SET UP YOUR CLASSES…• YOU ARE READY TO USE CLASS DOJO!!!

Now you can introduce this program to your students and their parents

• For Students• Show your classes the student introduction video• Model what you will do when you see a student exhibiting a positive behavior

and what you will do if you choose to use the negative behaviors.• Print out the parent/student invitations with their super secret codes and hand

out to students to take home-Students can change their monsters (avatars) with the student code• Start acknowledging student behaviors and watch their point totals grow!

• For Parents• Send home the introduction letter and the parent/student invitation so parents can sign up and track their child’s behavior and progress.

CLASS DOJO APPEARS LIKE THIS AFTER YOU HAVE STARTED TO ACKNOWLEDGE STUDENT BEHAVIORS

FOR YOUR INFORMATION…• There are various resources for parents, students, and other educators on the

resources page.• Under the section titled “student introduction pack” there are images, tracking

charts, and certificates you can print out and use as rewards and decorations in the classroom!

• You can take attendance with class dojo (present, late, absent) and you can refer back to the attendance records at any time.

• Class Dojo also offers a timer which is helpful to keep track of work time or to keep transitions short.

• You can award points to a single student or multiple students at once and if you hit “random” the program will pick a student (a great way to keep students on their toes!).

• You can clear student’s points bubbles at any time (we clear ours at the end of every week but some of my colleagues clear the point bubbles at the end of every month).

• Under reports at the top you can sort the data by many categories including students first name, last name, % positive, most positive, most needs work, and most combined (these categories are in a drop down found next to the word students on the left hand side).

CLASS DOJO AND REWARDS• Every teacher will decide what these points will translate into in the

classroom• Here is what my co-teacher and I do to give you an idea

1. Every day we look which student(s) earned the most points for THAT day and the winner visits our classroom treasure chest for a prize.

2. At the end of every week we look to see which student(s) have earned the most points for the whole week and they get to pick a book from our book gift basket to add to their personal collection at home.

3. At the beginning of the week we set a points goal for the whole class. This year we started at 50 points for the week (an average of 10 per day) and the students who earn enough points to meet the goal get a dojo celebration period which can be on the Ipads, on the playground, playing board games, etc. (if a student is absent during the week then we subtract 10 for every day they are out to make it fair).
