FIRST READING (Ecclesiasticus 44: 10-15)

Lelia Ward A reading from the book of Ecclesiasticus

Here is a generous and faithful woman whose good works have not been forgotten. In her descendants, there remains a rich inheritance born of her ; Her descendants stand by her covenants, and thanks to her, so do her children’s children. Her offspring will last forever, her glory will not fade. Her body will be buried in peace and her name will live on for all generations. The people will proclaim her wisdom, the assembly will celebrate her praises

This is the Word of the Lord

All. Thanks be to God

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

Jervis Ward The Lord is my Shepherd

Response. The Lord is My Shepherd, there is nothing I shall want

The lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. Fresh and green are the pastures where he gives me repose. Near restful waters he leads me, to revive my drooping spirit

Response. The Lord is My Shepherd, there is nothing I shall want

He guides me along the right path; he is true to his name. If I should walk in the valley of darkness, no evil would I fear. You are there with your crook and your staff; with these you give me comfort

Response. The Lord is My Shepherd, there is nothing I shall want

You have prepared a banquet for me in the sight of my foes. My head you have anointed with oil; my cup is overfl owing

Response. The Lord is My Shepherd, there is nothing I shall want

Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me all the days of my life. In the Lord’s house shall I dwell for ever and ever

Response. The Lord is My Shepherd, there is nothing I shall want

SPRINKLING WITH HOLY WATER

C. I bless the body of Clare with the water that recalls her baptism of which St. Paul writes: All of us who were baptised into Christ Jesus were baptised into his death. In the waters of baptism she died with Christ and rose with him to new life

All: May she now share with him eternal glory

LIGHTING OF THE PASCHAL CANDLE

C. At her baptism, Clare was entrusted with the light of Christ to be kept burning throughout her life. Enlightened by Christ, she walked as a child of the light, keeping the fl ame of faith alive in her heart

All. May it now lead her into eternal life

PLACING OF THE PALL AND FLOWERS

C. On the day of his baptism, Clare was clothed in Christ and given Christian dignity forever

All. May Christ now enfold her in his love and bring him to eternal life

All. Amen

Jesus Comforts His Disciples

Jesus said to his disciples “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”

Dear Lord, you know that our sister Clare loved home and family, and was a home maker

Her children lovingly made it possible for her to be in the home she made for them until her fi nal days, now she has found the one home that really satisfi es her longing

We pray today for those without a home – for migrants and refugees, for those whose homes are destroyed by extreme changes in climate or by wars. May our hearts reach out to these people. With confi dence, we ask Clare to add her prayers to ours

All. Lord hear us

Marc Heine

Recessional Hymn Make me a Channel of your Peace

Make me a channel of Your peaceWhere there is hatred, let me bring Your loveWhere there is injury, Your pardon LordAnd where there’s doubt, true faith in You

Make me a channel of Your peaceWhere there’s despair in life, let me bring hopeWhere there is darkness, only lightAnd where there’s sadness, ever joy

Oh Master, grant that I may never seekSo much to be consoled as to consoleTo be understood as to understandTo be loved as to love with all my soul

Make me a channel of Your peaceIt is pardoning that we are pardonedIn giving to all men that we receiveAnd in dying that we’re born to eternal life
