It is lovely to see settled and engaged classrooms as I walk around the school. The teachers are busy evaluating and assessing student’s work and then writing student reports. These mid-year reports will be sent home in the last week of school this term. I have also been happy to see children picking up rubbish without being asked to do so…a wonderful example of showing pride in our school. Clairgate Happy Campers Last week our Stage 3 teachers and students had a terrific time at their camp at Teen Ranch. The children enjoyed archery, rock climbing, orienteering, bush skills and the most popular – giant swing! Well done to our brave teachers who tried this out – Ms Grace, Ms Barnett and Mr Wilkinson! Mr Blanch, Mrs Judge, Mr Wilkinson, Ms Barnett and Ms Grace all said the children had a wonderful time and had excellent manners. Well done to all – and a special thank you to those amazing teachers for giving up their family time so that our children could enjoy themselves and build their social skills in this way. Read the camp report later in the newsletter. Clairgate Shines at the District Cross Country Carnival Congratulations to all our District Cross Country competitors last fortnight. Sports News District Cross Country Carnival Well done to our wonderful Clairgate students who participated at the annual St Marys District Cross Country Carnival at The Kingsway last week. All of our athletes tried hard and competed well. Clairgate’s Team is to be commended on coming 5th Place overall out of 12 schools at the carnival. Ms Grace, Mrs Camilleri and Ms Bartlett were very proud of everyone’s behaviour, effort and enthusiasm on the day. Thank you to Mr Glen for transporting shade shelters, cones and tarps. Well done also to our parents and supporters who cheered us on during the day and provided eskies and ice for valuable hydration. A special mention must go to Jessey and Abbey Bektas, who waited at the finish line of their race to shake the hands of each competitor as they crossed the finish line. Great sportsmanship girls. A huge congratulations to the following students who achieved a Top 8 place in their race and will be representing the St Marys District team at the Sydney-West Regional Carnival at Eastern Creek on Wednesday 12th June: * Cohan Bonanno * Anela Blake * Liam Nancarrow * Jessey Bektas * Abbey Bektas * Joshua McGeorge * Chloe Nancarrow * Billy Higgins.

Stage 3 Camp Review

On Wednesday 29th May, 2019 Stage 3 boarded the buses from Clairgate Public School and headed to Teen Ranch in Cobbity for three days of camp fun. As we arrived, we put our bags down and went into a place called the Rec Hall. A girl named Carly told us what we needed to know about Teen Ranch and what to do while we were there. Mrs Judge then split us up into our cabins and we got our bags and went to put them away before going to our first activity. As the day passed by, we participated in two more activities and also had lunch. Before long, it was time for dinner and we had spaghetti. It seemed like the blink of an eye and dinner was done and it was soon time for our night show. Once the night show finished, we played the pizza tray game and headed to bed in our cabins. Everyone was very happy as two more days of camp passed by. Within the last few minutes of camp, we all grabbed our bags and headed back to the buses to head back to Clairgate Public School. Hopefully everybody had a great time while on camp at Teen Ranch!

Celebrations of Merit Term 2 Awards: Last Day of acceptance This Friday 7th July

-Academic Award System-

Clairgate children are AMAZING and receive merit awards for positive behaviour and achievement in learning. These certificates are usually awarded at an afternoon assembly, but can sometimes be awarded by teachers for exemplary work and school contribution outside this time.

These merit awards are as shown:

How does the system work?

The system works in achieving merit certificates in increments of three. For every three merit awards the child receives, the child moves to a higher level of merit achievement.

Please hand in the merit certificates in bundles of three. Please label clearly with name and current class so that merit awards to be dated and witnessed. These will be recorded on the school’s SENTRAL System and the appropriate merit achievement will usually be awarded at a special Merit Assembly towards the end of each term. Parents and caregivers will be personally invited prior to the Merit Assembly. The merit awards will be returned to your child soon after each Merit Assembly.

Each time the child receives three more awards they will receive a higher order e.g.- Principals to Bronze to Silver and on to Gold etc. throughout their school years. The system is designed to continue to celebrate your child as they flourish and grow!

•3 merit awards = 1 Principal’s Awards

•6 merit awards = Bronze Principal’s Award

•9 merit awards = Silver Principal’s Award

•12 merit awards = Gold Principal’s Award

•15 merit awards = Platinum Principal’s Award

•18 merit awards = Diamond Principal’s Award

GOOD LUCK, EVERYONE!

Please feel free to contact Mrs McInally on 96701408 for any further information. Thank you.

For our new parents and old:-)

Our wonderful and very talented student gardeners at Clairgate have been busy with their passionate

green thumbs throughout term 1 and 2 this year.

However, before I continue this update, on behalf of the Gardening Club I wish to share my humble

appreciation to the very generous P and C, parent helpers, Mrs Rodgers, Miss James and our

Executive team for their kindness, encouragement and support in donating seeds, planter boxes,

greenhouse structures and a lemon tree to commence the gardening projects, which have been taking

place around the school since last year. I wish to also thank Mrs Jenkins and Mr Glenn for

volunteering their valuable time to ensure our students are always provided with a safe environment

to continue learning and extending their green thumb skills. THANK YOU SO MUCH J

The Gardening Club gets together every Thursday during lunch (weather permitting). Any student

from K-6 is welcome to attend the sessions. During this time students are delegated various jobs,

which include planting seeds, watering, transferring or turning soil, weeding, picking and eating the

foods they have grown and harvested themselves. Our keen gardeners are always excited to see new

food growing on the vine or in between leaves every week. No chemicals are used for the gardens…we

are very much organic.

It is always an absolute pleasure working with such dedicated students who make a great team as they

discuss other foods they want to see grow as well as come up with solutions to gardening issues.

Our gardeners currently attend to the tomatoes, cucumbers, capsicums, snow peas, pumpkins and

carrots in our gardens, and just recently they planted corn, lettuce, basil and strawberries near the

Stage 2 classrooms. We are also planning to start a compost process soon.

Check out the photos to date on the following page and watch this space for future updates and

blurbs from our keen gardeners.

SUCH A GREAT TEAM OF KIDS!!

National Simultaneous Storytime

All of Clairgate have been captivated by Macca the Alpaca and his friends

in our Library lessons. For the first time ever Clairgate participated in National

Simultaneous Storytime. This is an annual event that brings children from all

over Australian and New Zealand together to all read the same book at the

same time to encourage reading. Over one million children participated.

Classes enjoyed activities and fun with Macca and his friends. Now that the

children are alpaca experts ask them the difference between an alpaca

and a llama!

Netball Gala Day

On Tuesday 28th of May a wonderful group of girls participated in the State Knockout Netball Gala Day

at Jamison Park in Penrith. With their supporters cheering them on the girls had a great day enjoying them-

selves in a fun team atmosphere. The girls played three games during the day and came away with two

wins!

In true Clairgate Kindness spirit the girls graciously gave the opposition one of their players for the last

game as they had run in to injury trouble. Well done girls!

The girls were very lucky to meet a Sydney Swifts netball player—Maddy Proud. She is also an author of a

fantastic children's book. We bought a copy of the book for our Library and Maddy signed it for our

school.

Congratulations to all the players on their fantastic netball skills, team spirit, manners and kindness!

The team consisted of: Eloise, Chloe, Bethany, Ella, Lauren, Caitlin, Jorja, Maggie, Emilie and Paige.
