Why it all started

In the older days, before WWII, Britain had retained control of India, since the English had made their appearance in that country.

According to sources, Britain had first come to India at the beginning of the 18th century. There they had monopolized the trade inside India.

When did it end and why?

The English began to lose control around 1930s when a revolution began in India to remove all foreign powers.

This was Gandhi’s Nonviolence movement. Lead by Mahatma Gandhi, this emphasized the importance of not attacking or provoking as that would only lead to more bloodshed.

Why did it end and why cont.

In 1935, the English controlling government passed the Government of India Act which granted local rule which was a step towards democracy.

Due to the GoI of India Act, it also granted them limited democratic power in the total government.

After being in power in India for several decades, the British were finally forced out by the Indian people.

Alas, this arose to new problems as they did not know how to effectively govern the country such as the British did. Creating the problem of forming a new government and stabilizing the economy.
