• The civil war was a pivotal war in this nation’s history.
• There was much blood shed on both sides of this war.
• Both sides whether Confederate or the Union had generals that led their troops into battle.
Robert E. Lee
• Confederate General.
• Was a very popular Civil War General.
• When people think of Civil War Generals they think of Robert E. Lee.
• Was the Commander of the Army of Northern Virginia.
Stonewall Jackson
• Confederate General
• Died from friendly fire in the Battle of Chancellorsville.
• It was thought if he would have been alive to fight in the Battle of Gettysburg, that the battle would have been a Confederate victory.
• Is seen behind only Lee in the top generals of the Confederacy.
J.E.B Stuart
• Confederate General
• Joined the Confederate Army after Virginia seceded from the Union.
• Was colonel under Stonewall Jackson for a while but was eventually promoted to a major General.
• Died at the Battle of Yellow Tavern.
Ulysses S. Grant
• Union General.
• Originally was a clerk at a leather goods store.
• Led Union troops in many battles and eventually became President of the United States.
• Eventually died of cancer.
George Mcclellan
• Union General.
• Had nicknames of “Young Napoleon” and “Little Mac.”
• Was General-in-Chief of the Union army until the President removed him in 1862.
William Tecumseh Sherman
• Union General.
• Fought in many battles including Shiloh, Vicksburg, and Chattanooga.
• Was famous for taking Atlanta and “marching to the sea.”
