→ CAP flies about 80 percent of all daily missions flown by 1st Air Force, AFNORTH (about 70,000 hours in 2007)

→ “I encourage all Air Force leaders who deal with contingency actions to take a close look at CAP augmentation during operations. Their skill set and capabilities are a smart addition to a commander’s overall toolkit. You’ll certainly find CAP is a value-added partner.”

Lt Col Keith Kenne, Deputy Commander, 14th Mission Support Group, Columbus AFB, MS

• It was incorporated by Congress (PL 476 - 1946) as a non-profit, public service organization able to serve states, communities and others

• Technology that enables CAP to send high resolution digital imagery from CAP aircraft to anyone anywhere in the world

• Images are sent as JPEG attachments via standard e-mail to multiple addresses and/or a password-protected website

• Imagery is transmitted near real-time. Files take less than 2 minutes to transmit. *

* Globalstar satellites are currently having problems and will be replaced in 2009

Spectral signature matching: detects specific spectral signatures using matched filters (find things with known spectral properties)

Anomaly detection: detects spectral anomalies (things that do not “belong”)

Change detection: detects changes over time through a pixel-by-pixel comparison.
