Sitting in Holnberg's liv ing room amongst a collection ofMexicanwrestling ma sks an d posters peeling offth e walls, we discussed the band's odditi es as th ey ate tropical-flavored Dots andsmoked an endless supply of cigarettes.

Economy Team, has been their focus fortwo years and they're finally releasingtheir full-length debut, Kiss and Fondle.Ask them what kind of music they play,and the answer is a little hazy."Erno math rock," says Johnsonwith a smirk as Holnberg begs me no t towrite it.

' 'I'd say we're an energy-technicalrock three-piece," Holnberg says.

"Donkey flavor," Goudrt chimes in."Orwolfrock,"Holnbergadds , which

he clarifies as "butt rock you can actuallylisten to."

Perhaps definition-inept, Economy Team have a sound that's a stellarcombination of ravenous guitar withthoroughly thought-out bass lines andcomplementary percussion. After a lis ten of any length it's hard to believe onlythree sets of hands are able to make such

stream through th e sometimes-sinisterguitar riffs and Holnberg's flexible vocals ,bu t as for influenc es , the band give du ecredit to dragons , lightning bolts, andspace ships .

With a handful of per fectionist tendencies , the group members say theydon't mind taking their tim e during thewritingprocess (on e songtooksix monthsto finish). Musicianssince th ey were pre schoolers, they took years of formalles sons that have influenced th em to thinkon the technical side."We 're really technical in ou r writ ing an d that's why I think a lot of othermusicians like ou r music. But we h avefans ranging from oldwhi te men to younggirls-we haven't found a sp ecific fangroup," Holnberg says, his wild blondhair tangled in strange forms on his head.
