Today we are sending home with your child a ComputerCOP CD compliments

o

the

Waite Park Police Department and the City

o

Waite Park. The Police Depmtment

purchased these CDs to help parents monitor what their children are looking at while on

the computer. This CD enables you to scan your computer in a matter o minutes with the

click o a button. The first time you scan your computer select scan all files. Then you

can use the same disc and scan your computer in the future by selecting scan recent

files. The disc will scan all drives

on

your computer, including deleted files. For your

infom1ation, files that arc thought to be deleted are actually placed into a hidden folder

and m·e not actually deleted until they are overwritten with new deleted files.

When the disc has completed the scan it will enable you to go thrnugh the pictures one by

one and see what has been looked at on your computer. The first time you scan it will

bring up pictures from the help file and other files located

on

your computer. The disc

also has a dictionary

o

about 1,000 words that when it locates these words it will

highlight in the document. The words are ones related to drugs, violence and pedophiles.

f you place your cursor on a highlighted word it will tell you why it is highlighted. For

example, the words come to or send me will highlight. When you place your cursor

on these words it will indicate that these arc words that a pedophile may use to ask your

child to meet them or send them pictures, etc.

emails and chats, you may purchase this through ComputerCOP.

On Friday May

3rd

every child from Discovery, McKinley and St. Joseph's School will

be sent home with a CompuerCOP CD compliments

of

the Waite Park Police Department

and the City

of

Waite Park.

In an effo1t to keep kids safo online and to help parents monitor what their children are

doing on the computer, the Police Department purchased these CDs. The ComputerCOP

CD enables parents to scan their computer. The disc will scan all drives on the computer,

including deleted files. This will help parents to get a bet ter idea

of

what their children

are downloading and looking at. It also helps to alert parents to onlinc predators that may

he contacting their children. This CD does not scan emails and chats, but an upgrade can

be purchased that has the ability to scan these files also.
