Normandy Park SightLines 2030• Help the community of Normandy Park make better, more

informed choices for the long-term future.• Bring community members together to build consensus on a

preferred future for Normandy Park—a vision for the year 2030—and begin working to make that vision a reality over time.

• The Normandy Park SightLines 2030 visioning process was not intended to replace ongoing city planning and decision-making, but to help make those activities better informed, more strategic and more effective.

• Explore where we are today, where we want to be, and how we might get there. The process also provided an opportunity for people to come together to discuss significant trends and issues affecting their community in a proactive, collaborative way.

What People Really Want:More local business / retailLand Use and Development their wayA ‘gathering place’ParksWorking infrastructure

road maintenance; sidewalks on arterials; bridge repair

For Normandy Park to ‘stay unique’; ‘as it is’, ‘oasis’

Page 11: City of Normandy Park Visioning Strategic Plan Doug Schulze, City Manager

What we Learned During Phase 1“I REALLY LIKE NORMANDY PARK ”

How do you KEEP what you VALUE? It takes ACTION/ PRO– ACTION to do this!

Page 12: City of Normandy Park Visioning Strategic Plan Doug Schulze, City Manager

Affects on Outreach Design Start with the assumption of 3-way identity:

‘Natural’ beauty Community Safety and Security

Then, based on these values How to achieve these same values in the future What this actually ‘looks like’ to people

Inform and gather thoughts about topics that are: Arcane; complex (e.g., revenues and expenditures; which gov provides

which services) Controversial; widely divergent ideas (e.g., Retail? Housing appropriate

for seniors? Community center: retail, res, rec or gov? Recreation support?)

Help people explore trade-offs

Page 13: City of Normandy Park Visioning Strategic Plan Doug Schulze, City Manager
