Course Application and Content�e demand for rhino horn, ivory and natural resources has increased dramatically over the past couple of years. Rhino and elephant populations are under huge pressure due to the unprecedented increase in poaching related crimes targeting these iconic species.

Competent, well-trained and disciplined �eld rangers are the biggest assets of any conservation area that is e�ectively managing its poaching related risks. �e �eld rangers require the following basic skill sets to be counter poaching threats.

• Early spoor detection and patrol discipline• Ability to interpret track and sign (man and animal)• Ability to effectively and systematically follow track and sign of suspects• Ability to plan and co-ordinate integrated response to incursion• Gathering of field intelligence on suspects linking suspects to wildlife crimes• Effective and practical use of compass and GPS in the field• Practical SOP’s (standard operating procedures) in the case of spoor detected, shots observed, poachers observed and carcass located• Motivation to improve knowledge base, skill set and culture a positive attitude

Group Size:Minimum 6 Learners

Course RecognitionOver the 8 day course the candidate will be trained and assessed against the SASSETA accredited unit standard, "Track a Person" US ID 376642 and will be issued with a certi�cate of achievement from the SAWC and CITT and a badge for the relevant level achieved. Once final moderation has taken place, the learner will be accredited with the nationally recognized unit standard.
