CISS at Trinity offers the University Preparation programme as an ideal option for older students who seek a future academic career in an English university or college .

ACADEMIC MODULES & THEMES
University Writing
Students learn the function of different parts of written text. Lessons focus on suitable forms and standards for writing essays and other assignments, and examine the writing genre differences between major disciplines (e.g. writing in the humanities versus the sciences). The instructor provides 1-to-1 feedback on writing
Oral Communication
Lessons explore various oral communication styles with emphasis on key competencies required for post-secondary academic success: cross cultural communication, group discussion, presentations and active listening. Students gain an appreciation for subtle but highly meaningful elements of oral communication in English.
Successful University
Applications
Students consider the next steps of their academic and professional careers. Topice include: writing attractive personal statements, cover letters and CVs, and understanding the role of audience in successful applications. Students develop study strategies for language proficiency tests commonly required for higher education admission (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS etc.).
Specialty Workshops
Students hear from weekly guest speakers on varous post-secondary topics including cultural adaptation, study strategies, and contemporary research on academic success. These interactive workshops encourage students to apply their acquired skills in a safe and supportive environment.

PREPARE FOR YOUR FUTUREBased at Canada’s top-ranked university, this intensive programme is designed to help prepare international high school students for the challenges of post-secondary student life in a supportive and academically stimulating environment. The curriculum combines dynamic exercises in critical thinking with lessons on the modes of communication commonly used in universities and colleges.
