cisco at devto - tomorrow starts now for sheridan college students (july 28, 2014)
DESCRIPTION
Sheridan students are involved in hackathons, working with the Toronto 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games, and they learn actively with the latest video and collaboration techniques. Their students are career-ready, some of them launching their own business while in school. This presentation will explore the main technology infrastructure based on Cisco which makes all that possible, as well as the involvement of Sheridan in leading programs such as VROC and Connected North. Developers won’t want to miss hearing about cool technologies like CMX, Jabber Guest, and other technologies available on DevNet.TRANSCRIPT

Software Defined Networking (SDN)
API’s to network devices
New architectures for Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI)
Allows for the network to adapt to an application’s needs
Dynamically insert network services into an application network
Network Programmability

State is built when resources have “burnt-in” values that tie applications to hardware
Decoupling servers from “state” allows for scalability and flexibility
Similar to network programmability, server programmability allows for physical hardware/state to be provisioned and/or changed on-demand
Server Statelessness + Programmability

Orchestration
Tying in network and server programmability
Allows for rapid provisioning/deployment of systems and/or applications
Uses workflows to automate repetitive tasks
