b. There are two main ways to import pictures:

Connect the camera directly. You can import pictures by connecting the camera directly

to your computer using a universal serial bus (USB) cable. With this method, your

camera must be turned on, so importing pictures will use up some battery power. You'll

also need to keep the cable handy if you import pictures regularly.

Use a memory card reader. The fastest way to import pictures is to use a memory card

reader that you purchase separately. Remove the memory card from your camera, slide it

into the card reader, and then plug the card reader into your computer's USB port. Many

computers have built-in card readers, allowing you to slide memory cards directly into

the computer.

Part 1:

5. The Power button shuts down your computer, options are (sleep ,hibernate or shutdown).

Part 2: Using Desktop Fundamentals to get help

1. The desktop is the main screen area that you see after you turn on your computer and log on to

Windows. Like the top of an actual desk, it serves as a surface for your work. When you open

programs or folders, they appear on the desktop. You can also put things on the desktop, such as

files and folders, and arrange them however you want.

The desktop is sometimes defined more broadly to include the taskbar and Windows Sidebar.

The taskbar sits at the bottom of your screen. It shows you which programs are running and

allows you to switch between them.

2. Click the “Getting started with printer” link. List the three type of printers show in the Getting

started with printing area.

Inkjet printers

Inkjet printers print by placing small dots of ink on a page to reproduce text or graphics.

Inkjet printers can print in color or black ink. Although ink cartridges must be

periodically replaced, inkjet printers are often purchased for home use because they can

be relatively inexpensive. Some inkjet printers can reproduce high-quality pictures and

detailed graphics.

Laser printers

Laser printers use toner, which is a fine, powdery substance, to reproduce text and

graphics on paper. Laser printers can print in color or black ink, although color laser

printers are usually more expensive. A laser printer that can print using only black ink is

sometimes referred to as a monochrome printer.

Multifunction printers

Inkjet or laser printers that also allow you to fax, photocopy, or scan documents are

referred to as multifunction printers. A single multifunction printer can more convenient

to connect to your computer than multiple devices. You might also be able to use some

features of a multifunction printer without turning on your computer.

E-mail (short for electronic mail) is a fast and convenient way to communicate with others. You

can use e-mail to:

2.

POP3, SMTP, and other e-mail server types

Windows Mail IMAP accounts: frequently asked questions

Send and receive text messages. You can send an e-mail message to any person with an

e-mail address. The message arrives in the recipient's e-mail inbox within seconds or

minutes—whether he or she is your next-door neighbor or lives halfway around the

world.

Send and receive files. Besides text, you can send almost any type of file in an e-mail

message, including documents, pictures, and music. A file sent in an e-mail message is

called an attachment.

Send messages to groups of people. You can send an e-mail message to many people

simultaneously. Recipients can reply to the whole group, allowing for group discussions.

Forward messages.

5. Newsgroups are Internet discussion forums where groups of users with common interests

gather to talk about everything from software to comic books to politics. Unlike e-mail

messages, which are visible only to the sender and specified recipients, newsgroup messages

can be read by anyone who views the group that they're posted in.

Part 4: Using troubleshooting to get help

2. Windows Defender offers three ways to help keep spyware and other potentially unwanted

software from infecting your computer:

For Real-time protection Windows Defender alerts you when spyware or potentially

unwanted software attempts to install itself or to run on your computer. It also alerts you

when programs attempt to change important Windows settings.

SpyNet community. The online Microsoft SpyNet community helps you see how other

people respond to software that has not yet been classified for risks. Seeing if other

members of the community allow software can help you choose whether to allow it on

your computer. In turn, if you participate, your choices are added to the community

ratings to help other people choose what to do.

Scanning options. You can use Windows Defender to scan for spyware and other potentially

unwanted software that might be installed on your computer, to schedule scans on a regular

basis, and to automatically remove any malicious software that is detected during a scan.

3. Backing up your files helps to protect them from being permanently lost or changed in the

event of accidental deletion, a worm or virus attack, or a software or hardware failure. If any

of those things occur and your files are backed up, you can easily restore those files.

You can restore backed-up versions of files that are lost, damaged, or changed accidentally.

You can restore individual files, groups of files, or all files that you have backed up.

3. What do I need to connect to the Internet?

You need an Internet service provider (ISP) and some hardware to connect to the Internet:

ISP. An ISP provides access to the Internet. You sign up for an account with an ISP

just as you do for telephone service or utilities.

Hardware. For a broadband connection such as Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) or

cable, you need a DSL or cable modem. This is usually included as part of the start-

up hardware from your ISP when you sign up for a broadband account. For a dial-up

connection, you need a dial-up modem. Many computers come with this type of

modem already installed.
