178 STORE CATTLE 11.00 am – Auctioneers: Jon Pullin & Chris Voyce
Avg: Steers £700 (168p/kg), Heifers £631 (154p/kg) An improved entry saw trade a shade firmer on the stronger & better cattle but the lesser sorts still difficult to place with the cost of feed & fodder is
putting many off buying cattle.
Very little strength on offer topping at £1100 (160p/kg) for a Hereford steer from M/s J Allen & Son, Olveston. The stronger farming cattle were a
shade firmer with steers £860 - £970 (185 – 195p/kg) topping at £995
(176p/kg) for a British Blue steer from M/s R Witchell & Son, Tetbury. The heifers were £780 - £850 (165 – 175p/kg) topping at £990 (167p/kg)
for a Simmental from Ms C Wheeler, Pilning.
A few younger steers sold to a similar trade with a run of Hereford steers
(14 – 17mnths) to £888 (181p/kg) & £878 (186p/kg) from M/s D Gill &
Son, Ablench. A run of smart shapey cattle (9 – 11mnths) from Mr D Hillman, Rodbourne saw Limousin steers to £975 (185p/kg) & heifers to
£950 (184p/kg).
The lesser shaped cattle or out of spec sorts are difficult to place except at lower figures generally between £500 - £600 (120 – 140p/kg).
