Dairy calves (47) on offer saw best Friesians from Richard Andrews at £270. Normandy x sold to £120, 36 Kiwi Bull calves averaged a much improved £30 per head with the calves sold in small groups to assist buyers. Avg: Steers £700 (168p/kg), Heifers £631 (154p/kg) An improved entry saw trade a shade firmer on the stronger & better cattle but the lesser sorts still difficult to place with the cost of feed & fodder is

putting many off buying cattle.

Very little strength on offer topping at £1100 (160p/kg) for a Hereford steer from M/s J Allen & Son, Olveston. The stronger farming cattle were a

shade firmer with steers £860 - £970 (185 – 195p/kg) topping at £995

Lamb SQQ 172.6p/kg Overall Average 170.6p/kg

Again a similar entry but trade been easing all week but today was better than

many had expected. The better shaped, good meat lambs traded between 180 –

185p/kg topping at 191p/kg £90 for 47kg from Mr R Richins. The fair meat but

looser coated sorts were 172 – 178p/kg with the leaner sorts 165 – 170p/kg. A

few heavier lambs sold mostly between £84 - £90.

Overall Average – Ewes - £49.28

Another similar number forward again saw an entry of mostly plain or lesser

ewes. Trade was firm throughout and pleasing for the entry on offer. No real

strong ewes on offer topping at £80. The stronger half meated Continental &

Suffolk ewes trading between £70 - £80. The medium half meated ewes were

£58 - £65 & smaller sorts £45 - £50. Leaner grazing types were £25 - £40 with

extremely plain £15 - £25. Rams to £85.

Steers 154p/kg, Heifers 182p/kg, Cows 109p/kg

A few decent cattle forward saw Limousin heifers topping at 205p/kg from M/s

F J Nutland & Son with other 190 – 195p/kg. Steers topped at 186p/kg for a

overage Simmental from M/s D & D Meredith.

Another flying trade on the cows with mostly dairy cows on offer. The stronger,

good meat cows were 125 – 138p/kg topping at 143p/kg £1254 from M/s P, I

& G Robertson. Medium cows 100 – 1115p/kg with leaner cows 85 – 90p/kg. Extremely plain cows 35 – 50p/kg.
