Research problem

Circular economy (CE) promotes the

resiliency of resources and aims at

increasing the efficiency of resource use

by adaptation of closing-the loop

production pattern

Current view of CE is still rather narrow

CE is not only about closing the raw

materials loops and production

CE has wider systemic, integrative and

cumulative effects with potential impacts

on sustainability

Broadening of perspectives is needed

Approach

We utilized participatory foresight

methodologies and focused on the

scenario generation

Scenarios were augmented by

developing a co-creation tool for

complementary scenarios

Target of the Circular economy

kaleidoscope tool was to co-produce

future oriented sustainability solutions in

a form of business ideas

The kaleidoscope tool was tested in a

stakeholder workshop settings

Main findings and lessons learnt

The tool aimed at promoting transformation

in niche scale by changing prevailing

mindsets through realization of alternative

options and combinations (e.g. drivers,

business models and ideas) and their

impacts to sustainability

It was found to engage stakeholders,

enhance co-creation, and create new

perspectives and insights on CE

Identifying and experiencing future

elements facilitates understanding what is

needed for a more systemic sustainable

transformation
