6. Case Studies

• Focus on their view of Data, Processes, Tools & Systems

requirements in the context of AM

• Three utility case studies presented – Eskom, TenneT and

Manitoba Hydro (30 pages)

• Of these 3, only TenneT was certified to ISO55001 in 2018

• Observations made while avoiding mentioning names of

solution vendors in line with CIGRE policy

Observations

• All utilities have a mass of data

that is used to manage assets

• All utilities apply business process

mapping and information manage-

ment systems, which are either developed in-house or sourced

commercial off the shelf (COTS) with customisation

• The anchor business models are Asset Owner-Asset

Manager-Asset Service Provider at TenneT but Eskom and

Manitoba Hydro use the Asset Lifecycle Model

regulatory constraints and strategic objectives, it is

virtually impossible to develop a “one-size-fits-all”

solution to deploying ISO55001”.
