Holy Trinity Book Store Review

The Weight of Glory

by C. S. Lewis

reissued by Harper One $13.99

Here is a collection of addresses

delivered by C. S. Lewis during the

complex and difficult years of

World War II. Known as one of

the best Christian writers of the 20th century, his

sermon entitled “The Weight of Glory” is considered

to be one of his most profound, extolling compassion

and hope, faith, forgiveness, and Christian virtue.

You Can’t Touch My Hair by Phoebe Robinson

From Amazon: Being a black woman in America

means contending with old prejudices and fresh

absurdities every day. Comedian Phoebe Robinson has

experienced her fair share over the years: she's been

unceremoniously relegated to the role of "the black

friend," as if she is somehow the authority on all things

racial; she's been questioned about her love of U2 and

Billy Joel ("isn’t that . . . white people music?"); she's

been called "uppity" for having an opinion in the

workplace; she's been followed around stores by

security guards; and yes, people do ask her whether

they can touch her hair all. the. time. Now, she's ready

to take these topics to the page—and she’s going to

make you laugh as she’s doing it. Please note change

in day of the week.

Dinner & a Movie:

Friday June 23rd

6pm in the Parish Hall

Movie of the night-

Lion Our first movie of this summer series is

Lion. Based on the true story of a young

Indian boy adopted by Australian parents, it traces the

life story as he recovers his past and how he ended up a

continent away from his mother. We will have our

Holy Spirit potluck before we watch the movie. Bring

whatever you want to, and consider bringing a

comfortable chair for the viewing.

Next movie & date: Loving on Friday, July 14th

Coffee Break

Tuesday, June 13th, 2:30pm.

Come and join St. Elizabeth Guild for

a visiting time with coffee, tea and

dessert. Men and women of all ages are invited to

attend. Sally Bates and Kathy Jacobson are the

afternoon’s hostesses.

Mary Ann and I wish to thank you

for the cards and best wishes for

our 70th wedding anniversary. We

especially appreciate the brief but

so meaningful part of the service

and blessing by Rev. Susanna. 37% of our married

life has been nourished at this altar with you.
