Mass This Sunday for Pentecost: May 30th and 31st

OUTDOOR MASS SCHEDULE

Saturday: Vigil Mass at 5:00 PM

Sunday: 8:00 AM, 9:30 AM,

11:00 AM and 12:30 PM

All regularly scheduled Masses will be held this coming weekend in the northeast

parking lot (Lot where Family Festival tent is usually set-up).

1) Everyone must remain in their car 2) Cars will park in parking lot directed by church attendant. 3) There will be no distribution of Holy Communion and no collection for this first

week. 4) Please shut car and radio off once Mass begins. 5) As we all know, things are changing by the day, but until further notice, this will be

the norm until we are allowed back in the Church. 6) Prayer of Faithful: If you would like to have the name of a family member, who

recently passed due to the Coronavirus, announced during the Prayer of the Faithful, please email their first and last name to Monica Gannon at mgannon@holyspiritli.org by Thursday, May 28 at 5 PM.

Your support of our parish is greatly appreciated. Please continue to pray for all who are

sick, for a vaccine for the Coronavirus, and for our country to reopen. May God continue

to bless our country, our Church, and all our parishioners.

• Please be patient with our parking lot Mass. This may not be a perfect alternative but we will be trying hard to keep it safe, positive and spiritual.

• If something, or someone, gets on your nerves, please offer it up to Christ and we will try to rectify it next week.

Mass This Weekend Outdoors

(A Drive-in Mass)

Please join us this weekend, and every weekend, for outdoor Mass, until we are allowed to

reopen the Church for all of our parishioners. This will be a great challenge for all of us,

especially if the weather does not cooperate, but it’s worth the effort. And, if we work together

with a positive attitude, we can do it, and do it successfully! To keep things simple, we will keep

our regular schedule for Sunday Mass:

Saturday @ 5:00 PM

Sunday @ 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM and 12:30 PM

At this time, we will not have Holy Communion at Mass, but through God’s grace, we know it’s

coming soon. We will not have a collection for this first week, but kindly ask if you will continue

to mail in your envelopes.

We will have a sound system thanks to Ray Mcknight, and will celebrate Memorial Day, a week

late, with patriotic songs.

We will celebrate this great feast of Pentecost as we commemorate the decent of the Holy

Spirit upon the 12 Apostles. This is the day God gave his Apostles the grace and strength to

help build his Church! We now ask for God’s grace and strength to help rebuild his Church.

This has been a difficult time, but we should never underestimate the power of God. God has

always been here for his people and he is here for us now. Please be part of this celebration of

our faith in Jesus Christ as we ask him for his continued protection for all of us.

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of

the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

And, surely, I am with you always, until the end of the world”.

Reflection from Deacon John Hogan

Reprint of Deacon John Hogan’s Reflection from May 17, 2020 (Sixth Sunday of Easter)

A number of years ago, when I was a graduate student, I had reason to do some research in the law

school library at St. John’s. The thing that has stayed with me all these years later is the thousands of

volumes on the shelves with laws and interpretation of laws in them. The shelves literally went for as

far as the eye could see.

With that in mind, I couldn’t help but think that if we all just followed Jesus’ directive to “love one

another,” and “keep my commandments,” perhaps all those law volumes would not be necessary. If

we just followed God’s laws, which fit on one page, that things would be pretty good. I mean, could it

be any easier?

1. I am the Lord your God: you shall not have strange gods before me.

2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.

3. Remember to keep holy the Lord’s Day.

4. Honor your father and mother.

5. You shall not kill.

6. You shall not commit adultery.

7. You shall not steal.

8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

9. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife (or husband).

10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods.

It seems to me that all of those law books are encapsulated in the Ten Commandments, if only we did

a better job of keeping them!

Jesus tells us that if we observe His commandments, which are rooted in love, then we love Him… and

if we love Him, and show that love by our actions with one another, then the Father will love us, and

Jesus will love us and reveal Himself to us. Jesus reveals Himself to us in the Commandments; by His

word; in the Eucharist; through the Holy Spirit, and through the Church and the Sacraments. Remain in

Him, and He will remain in us.

All in all, a pretty good deal!

These email messages were sent without his knowledge. He is working on having this issue fixed. In the meantime, thank you for your understanding and for disregarding any emails that do not sound like they would have been sent from him.

RESPECT LIFE COMMITTEE

A strong reminder of the sacredness and preciousness of human life came from

Governor Cuomo recently: “How much is a human life worth? That is the real discussion

that no one is admitting openly or freely…To me I say the cost of a human life is

priceless.” I hope when this pandemic passes and we can hug our friends, see their

smiles on faces no longer wearing masks, worship in churches, and see our

grandchildren in person and not in a zoom meeting, our legislators will hear those

words and apply them to their decisions regarding the unborn and those approaching

the end of their life’s journey.

Message from the Director of Religious Education

Dear Parents, It has been a while since we have seen each other in class or at Church. I pray that all is well and everyone is safe and healthy. I miss having the children around the Church & Religious Education. The last few months have been different for us. We have been taken out of our comfort zones and forced into this world of social distancing and home schooling, and for some, not being able to go to work. Our patience and our frustrations are at very high levels. Our inability to see, touch and hold some of our loved ones saddens us. We watch Sunday Mass online or on TV and we are praying more than maybe we ever have before. Our faith has been tested as never before. And through our trust in God, we have endured! Nevertheless, we are beginning to see a light at the end of that tunnel. Every day when I go out for my walk, I see dozens of kids out on bikes or walking with their families. On Long Island, we are beginning our stage 1 re-opening. Things are beginning to trend in a positive direction. At Holy Spirit, there is one thing that we are going to be doing this Saturday evening and Sunday morning: Drive-in-Masses! See Fr. Grieco's message in the bulletin for additional details. I will try to be there at least at the beginning of each Drive-in-Mass to say hello if I can. I will be the big guy with the black mask covering my handsome face! Keep praying and stay safe.
