Reflections from Father John

The Wedding Feast at Cana reminds us of three things, one) that the Lord is always with us, two) when we run short on things the Lord provides, and three) He saves the best for last. I always remind couples that I am preparing for marriage that it is the Lord who is in their midst when they exchange vows and He is in their presence in a very real way. The priest is the official witness of a marriage, the congregation also serves as witnesses and it is done in the house of the Lord in the presence of the Church. But, it is not the priest who marries the couple, that belief is a fallacy; a priest is not allowed to marry anyone. It is the couple who marry each other. When they exchange vows the marriage takes place with Jesus right at the center of it making the two into one by His grace. During marriage preparation I also remind the couple that not all days in their marriage will be like their engagement, or wedding day or honeymoon. The realities of life and its hardships enter in and in tough times it may almost seem we have nothing left, both spiritually and physically. Yet, even in those moments the Lord provides, just the couple from Cana ran out of wine Jesus at the request of His mother

made more wine for the couple and their friends. Jesus does this for us as well, when it seems we are running out of wine, He will provide more for us. Finally our Lord

saves the best for last. You

know the attendants ask

the host that usually the

cheap wine comes last

because everyone is already tipsy and won’t be able

to taste the wine anymore; however, the Lord brings

out the choice vintage last. This was done for many

reasons, as a gift to the couple and their family and

friends, but also to remind us all that the best gift for

us will be the last gift, i.e. Eternal life. The last thing I

hope and pray the Lord will give me will be to join Him

forever in heaven. There is no wine on this earth that

can compare, for in Heaven the realized and hoped for

wedding feast of Cana will be fulfilled, all of us

celebrating with our Lord in the Heavenly banquet.

God bless you,

Father John

Gloucester Catholic Car Raffle

We’ve listened and heard…In response to busy family schedules we will offer a non-traditional classroom setting that meets every other week with a small assignment during the off weeks. The children will have a homeroom and two other rotations utilizing the talents of more than one teacher. One station will have Bible stories with activities, another will have catechetical lessons with games and hands-on experiences, and at a third station the children can respond to all they have learned with an artistic project. Each evening will begin and end with prayer time with homeroom teachers.

It is our hope that the children (and parents) will be excited about their class and their faith. The program is developed so the children will learn more than ever and have fun while they learn.

Please pray about and consider this option. Stop in the office and discuss it with our staff. Also, as always, please consider being part of our teaching team. It is our hope to create an option for our families that is conducive to today’s family life. Faith and family are number one!

Registration will begin in a few weeks.

SUPPORT FOR THE HEARTS ON THE MEND: GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP AT HOLY FAMILY

We all have experienced losses in our life. The normal and natural reaction to any significant emotional loss is grief. And grief hurts! We need support and help to get through these times. Grief Support Groups help us cope with the loss of a loved one by being with people who share similar experiences. They also journey with us in rebuilding our lives and provide us with a safe environment and the accurate informa-tion about grief and grief recovery.

The support group will meet for eight weeks on Thursdays, beginning January 28 at 7:00 p.m. in the Fausto Conference Room. Whether your grief is new and raw or lingering and unresolved, these sessions will help you to heal and move toward peace and acceptance of the absence of the loved one in your life. If you are someone who has lost a dear one to death; we welcome you to join for these sessions.

For more information, please call the parish office, 856-228-1616, or email Deacon Joe at [email protected]

Car raffle tickets will be available after all Masses next weekend. Families from Gloucester Catholic will be selling the tickets, which will benefit student

activities and Kairos Retreat Programs at Gloucester Catholic. If you win you will choose one of two vehicles offered – details are on the ticket stub.
