Church of the Good Shepherd June 2017 Volume 7, Issue 6 Shepherd’s Tales Looking With New Eyes As I write this article, the parish hall is beginning to fill with all sorts and conditions of items that will be offered in our annual yard sale on June 10 th . Each item will have served its usefulness to the donor, and the space it once occupied will probably be taken by something new the donor could not live without (until time for the next sale). The most profound outcome of this sale will be that someone else will see these discarded items with new eyes. These eyes will impute a new value and purpose to these “discards”, and they will be given a second chance to serve the purpose for which they were made. Seeing the world through new eyes is a powerful way of transforming something that was old into something that can be perceived as fresh and new. The dynamics of a yard sale are not much different from how God views each of us in the divine plan God has laid out for you and me. As I see the same old face looking back at me each morning in the mirror, I run the risk of seeing that face with the same old eyes. Over time, this routine runs the danger of rob- bing me of my ability to see myself anew. I begin to settle for less, believe the best of life is already behind me, and that my usefulness within God’s realm on earth has already reached its peak. The Good News of the Gospel is that God continues to see us with new eyes. Our self-worth is not measured through our own worn-out sight, but by the transformative vision through which God chooses to see us! This vision is one of God’s unconditional love, immeasurable possibility, and the pleasure God experi- ences by having us in His presence. At times, we may need to shed that layer of rust, or to have the hardened glaze of our hearts softened, but nothing is beyond God’s power to accomplish these things. So come to the yard sale! And as you see that myriad of old, recycled goods, look at them with new eyes, and be reminded that God is constantly doing the same in your own life as well. Praise God! Fr. Bill +

Looking With New Eyes

As I write this article, the parish hall is beginning to fill with all sorts and conditions of items that will be offered in our annual yard sale on June 10th. Over time, this routine runs the danger of rob-bing me of my ability to see myself anew. This vision is one of God’s unconditional love, immeasurable possibility, and the pleasure God experi-ences by having us in His presence. Praise God! Fr. Bill +

June 4th — Pentecost — Wear Red!

As we celebrate the day that the Holy Spirit

made himself known to us and

came to dwell among us.

Come Holy Spirit and enkindle your love!

Just a Note from the Secretary:

I will be out of the office on vacation from June 9th through June 18th. I hope

this doesn’t cause any inconvenience, but I need this time off to play on the beach

with my grandchildren before they have outgrown such things. Thank you all for

your love and understanding and I’ll be back in the office on the 19th!!

Barbara

Yard Sale Time Again, Clean out your closets The annual yard sale will be held on Saturday, June 10th from 7 – 11 AM. We will need

help the day of the sale, especially a few people with trucks to help take the leftovers for

donation.

Please bring your gently used items to church anytime between now and Friday, June 9.

Place the items in the designated spot in the parish hall. You may drop off anytime dur-

ing office hours, if you need to drop off at a different time,

please email Jill Neff at [email protected] to arrange a

drop off time. If you see a priced item that you would like

to purchase prior to the sale, there will be a place to put

money. You will have to wait to purchase anything that is

not priced.

Summerfest Antiques and Artisans 2017

Summerfest Antiques and Artisans event, will be held the weekend of Au-

gust 25 and 26. We will need many hands to help out. More information will fol-

low, but we will be having our own booth again this year which will be either dona-

tion of items, or consignment.

Last year we had consignment items of handmade jewelry, antique silver,

pottery, vintage purses, and various other items. We would also like to have our

showcase of artists. Start searching for and making items to sell. The sale last year

was very successful. On consignment items, Good Shepherd will keep 30% of sale

and you will take home 70%. We are still looking for a few vendors for the sale, if

you know of anyone who would like to rent a booth please email Jill and Randy

Neff at [email protected].

From Lilly Duncan:

Use FAST To Remember The Warning Signs Of A Stroke

FACE: Ask the person to smile.

Does one side of the face droop?

ARMS: Ask the person to raise

both arms. Does one arm drift

downward?

SPEECH: Ask the person to re-

peat a simple phrase. Is their

speech slurred or strange?

TIME: If you observe any of

these signs, call 9-1-1 immedi-

ately.
