Scripture Corner: TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

First Reading: Ezekiel 33:7-9 God has appointed the prophet as a watchman over his people. If he fails to give them warning against sin, he will be held responsible.

Second Reading: Romans 13:8-10 In this beautiful letter, Paul says that all command-ments are contained in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Gospel: Matthew 18:15-20 Jesus explains to his disciples how to respond to those who wrong them – with gentleness and practi-cal wisdom. He promises that whenever “two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in their midst.”

LABOR DAY—Monday, September 7th

Wear your MASK while receiving the Eucharist from the priest----BY HAND ONLY. Step away, 6 feet to the side, move your mask to place the Eucharist in your mouth. Immediately re-place your mask.

SUNDAY MASS

We are celebrating Sunday Masses at St. Marys with a capacity limit. Temporarily there will NOT be any Masses at St. Matthias.

Reminder---The obligation to attend Sunday Mass is still suspended.

We ask you to use your best judgment (especially members of at-risk populations) about coming to Church. Those who feel sick in any way or who are anxious about coming should not come to Church.

FAITH FORWARD

2021 MASS BOOK The 2021 Mass Book will be opened about

Tuesday September 15th

In an effort to maintain health and safety for all

involved, there will NOT be a regular in person

opening day as in the past. Masses may be

requested by mail or dropped in the collection box in

the church and will be filled in the order they were

received. Forms can be found on the website or

you may call the rectory if you would to have one

mailed to you. The actual form is not required to

request Masses as long as you send in your full

contact information (name, address, phone

number), your intention with first and second choice

dates/times and your donation of $20 per

Mass. If you feel you need to come in

person to the rectory, please CALL FOR

AN APPOINTMENT. Appointments will

be available starting with Tuesday,

September 22nd.

At the suggestion of the Archdiocese, after consulta-

tion with the chairman of our Parish Council, our

Parish Trustees, and a random sampling of parish-

ioners, it has been decided that we will adjust our

Sunday Mass schedule. As a result of the recent

pandemic, the numbers of people coming to Sunday

Mass have dropped greatly. On the whole, our five

Sunday Masses at St. Marys average a total of 180

people. In particular, attendance at the 8:45 am Sun-

day Mass has been about 15 people.

Therefore, starting with the first Sunday in October

(Oct 4th), our Sunday Mass schedule at St. Marys

will be as follows:

Saturday Vigil 5:15 pm

Sunday 7:30 am, 9:00 am, 11:00 am.

Any Mass intentions originally schedule for the 8:45

am Mass will be transferred to the 9:00 am Mass.

Any intentions originally schedule for the 11:30 am

will be transferred to the 11:00 am Mass.

Mass intentions scheduled for the 10 am Mass will

be transferred to an available Mass at St. Marys. We

will attempt to notify all those with 10 am Mass in-

tentions of the new date and time. Please call Jane at

the rectory if you have not received information

about the rescheduled Mass by September 15th.

FYI Maintenance Update

Starting at the end of September and continuing into October, there will be much work going on to BOTH our church buildings of St. Marys and St. Matthias. The exterior of both churches will be washed, have any needed carpentry repairs made, and the exteriors will be painted. This work has been made possible by the generosity of you, our parishioners, through the Renew & Rebuild Program.

September 6, 2020 Month of the Sorrowful Mother

Dear friends on the Lord:

The COVID-19 pandemic concerned many countries and in several of them, preventative measures precluded the normal community celebration of Holy Week. The Christian communities in the Holy Land, also exposed to the risk of contagion and living in contexts already full of serious sufferings, benefit every year from the generosity of the faithful from all over the world. This solidarity enables them to continue their evangelical presence, in addition to maintaining schools and charitable structures that assist all citizens with healthcare, education, and peaceful coexistence, attending above all to the weakest and poorest.

For this reason, Pope Francie has approved the proposal that the Pontifical Good Friday Collection for the Holy Land, for the year 2020, take place on Sunday, September 13, near the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

The celebration that commemorates the discovery of the Relics of the Cross by St. Helena also marks a new beginning of public worship in Jerusalem, with the construction of the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre. May it be a sign of hope and salvation after the pas-sion to which many peoples are now associated, as well as solidarity with those who continue to live the Gospel of Jesus on the Land where “it all began”’

This offering allows God’s people to inhabit the Holy Places and in doing so bears witness to the Resur-rection of Christ. Your support helps the Franciscan friars to preserve the sacred shrines. I am asking you once again to be as generous as your means allow.
