THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading: Wisdom 6:12-16 Regarded as personifying God’s power, Wisdom is readily and easily found by those who seek her. Second Reading: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18The Thessalonians, who fear that those who have died will miss Christ’s return, are comforted by Paul’s assurance that those “who have died in Christ will rise first.” Gospel: Matthew 25:1-13 In the parable of the five sensible bridesmaids and the five foolish bridesmaids, Jesus emphasizes the fact that we must always be ready for the coming of Christ because in his words, “You know not the day or the hour.”
thanksgiving day mass
On Thanksgiving Day, November 23rd there will be one Mass celebrated at 9am. This is the best way to start your holiday, by being present with your parish community to give thanks to God for all His blessings.
THANKSGIVING DAY COMMUNITY CENTERAt the 9 am Mass on Thanksgiving the annualcollection will be taken for the Northern Westchester Community Center. If you will not be able to attend the Mass, contributions may be made payable to St. Marys, marked Community Center and sent to the rectory before Thanksgiving. St. Marys will forward the entire amount collected to the Community Center.
My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God.
Save the DateAdvent Candlelight Evening
December 15th Come away from the busyness and noise of the world for an Advent Candlelight Evening of Music, Readings and Reflections. Join with the St Mary's Community on Friday evening, December 15th at 7:30 pm as we enter into the peaceful and quiet anticipation of the coming of our Lord and Savior. Wine and cheese, appetizers and soft drinks will be served immediately following in the St. Joseph's Room.
FYI: Readings and the Liturgical Year Sunday ReadingsSunday November 26, the Feast of Christ the King is the last Sunday of our Liturgical Year. Our cycle of readings for Sunday Mass changes on the First Sunday of Advent, which this year is December 3rd. Sunday readings are on a 3 year cycle, labeled Year A, B, & C. For Advent we will be starting Liturgical Year B, which emphasizes the Gospel of Mark. The first reading, which is usually from the Old Testament, reflects important themes from that day's Gospel. The second reading is usually from one of the epistles, a letter written to an early Church community.
Weekday Readings The first reading of the weekday Masses are on a two year cycle, Year I and Year II. Year II is read in even numbered years, so for 2018 we will be using Year II. The Gospels remain the same for both years.
St. Mary's Adopt-A-Family Program: As we look forward to the coming holiday season and to celebrating a joyous Christmas, we also keep in mind those less fortunate. There are always many families that are facing hardship this season. Some are families with small children, some are elderly and having a difficult time paying for medications and food. We can help by "adopting" a family and providing a Christmas meal and a few small gifts to make Christmas a little bit brighter for these families. The Community Center of Northern Westchester refers their neediest families to us. All are local families. You can choose to adopt a family for Christmas, or make a contribution to the program. No amount is too small!
For more information, please contact Roanne at: 914-715-5542 or [email protected] or Janine at [email protected] or 914-439-4663. The deadline for adopting a family is November 30 but contributions to the program can be accepted up until December 8th.

2017. The seminar leader will be Fr. Jack Rathschmidt.
At least ten times in the Gospels Jesus refers to himself as the Shepherd and we as the sheep. In our non-agrarian and social media age, how do these images help us to deepen our experience of God? Come and let’s discuss this question and other issues at the seminar. The seminar will begin at 9:30 AM with continental breakfast in the Parish Center and the presentation followed by lunch. The cost for each session is $12. Call St. Joseph’s Parish Office at 914-232-2910 to register.

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.
In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks
on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
